Sony announced today that it's sold 50 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of December 6. That figure pertains to units sold through to consumers and also covers the PS4 Pro.

For Black Friday, Sony said the PlayStation brand enjoyed the best week in the company's history. However, no specifics were provided. A third-party report claimed that Microsoft's Xbox One outperformed the PS4 on Black Friday.

In terms of game sales, PS4 software sales stand at more than 369.6 million across retail and via the PlayStation Store as of December 4.

"We're truly delighted that the PS4 community continues to flourish since launch three years ago," Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Andrew House said in a statement. "With tremendous support from our fans and partners across the globe, this year we were able to deliver an unprecedented lineup of hardware, including the new slimmer PS4, PS4 Pro, and PlayStation VR. We will continue to provide the best gaming experiences available through our ground-breaking software lineup and network services, as we focus on accelerating our business and expanding the PS4 ecosystem."

No specifics were provided, but Sony ended its statement today by saying it will "continue to expand the world of PS4 to deliver entertainment experiences that are only possible on PlayStation."

The PS4 still has work to do to catch the PlayStation 3, which has sold more than 80 million systems.

If you're looking to pick up a new PS4, Amazon is offering a wicked good deal right now where you can get the Uncharted 4 PS4 Slim model with a year of PlayStation Plus for only $270.
