Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the plans in a message to fans on Twitter, stating that “we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac.”

The announcement comes days after a developer, going by the online handle Twisted, announced an unofficial Remote Play app for Windows.

Remote Play launched in November 2013, during the global release of PlayStation 4, and was pitched as an alternative way to play PS4 games through a second screen. Gameplay data is streamed to the PS Vita across a home Wi-Fi network, with input commands returning back to the system. Certain phones, such as Sony’s Xperia Z5, are also compatible with the service.

There are no further details yet on how the service will work for PC and Mac owners.

Microsoft offers a similar console-to-PC streaming service, where an Xbox One can be mirrored on a Windows 10 device.

@Xristophoros: the ps tv box thingy allows you to stream to any tv that it's plugged in to. I think it's down to $20 now.

@joshrmeyer: true, though you could also connect it to your monitor/pc set up. this new app will make it that much easier to stream i guess... $20 at best buy america. here in canada it did not get such a crazy price drop. i would consider getting one at such a bargain basement price :D

@Xristophoros:

They are likely just using whatever program streams psnow except from a ps4 as the server.

It's been known since before psnow ever even launched a beta the streaming tech would be platform agnostic and on PC.

@Xristophoros:

It's probably the same app honestly.

Psnow on PC. It might just detect a ps4 on the network as well as a function. That would make sense.

Xbot logic dictates that add device to remote play is copycat.

If you go to technobuffalo there is an article about a third party that created an app to trick the PS4 to think a PC is a Vita to stream content from the PS4 to the PC. Sony added PC to beat then to the bunch.

@bobafetthatesu: I find it ironic and moronic that you would comment something only a fanboy or troll would say. :D

@bobafetthatesu:

I thought it was common knowledge they were working on streaming to PC because they said before psnow ever launched they intended it to be platform agnostic and on PC so even people without PlayStation consoles could play.

It's only logical they open this as well and it was likely planned. It's essentially the same tech isn't it?

Maybe a Sony boss should tweet the same crap daily so it's reported and no one ever forgets what they say. Maybe they do and it's just not reported?

@lrdfancypants: On the go with a laptop or Surface/Win tablet. Also using it on PC while surfing the net for game stats, discussions or guides, that's what I do with the XB1 stream.

Yeah, I get people will use it just like MS's streaming but I won't likely use it.

Anyway to use this in order to have split screen split to two different monitors or am I still stuck with only using 1 monitor to split?

I wonder how will this affect multiplayer games. I image remote playing with mouse and keyboard would offer an unfair advantage over playing with gamepad. True there might be some lag, but I think the precision given by mouse would outweigh disadvantages of slight lag. I guess, well wait and see...
