PS4 Ratchet & Clank Game Delayed to Spring 2016

Ratchet & Clank movie coming April 29, 2016.

The PlayStation 4 re-imagining of the original Ratchet & Clank game has been delayed to spring 2016, developer Insomniac Games has announced via post to the PlayStation Blog.

"While you might have to wait a bit longer than expected, rest assured we're using the time wisely to further polish the game to a spit-shine level, with dazzling shader response, awe-inspiring effects, velvety smooth animations, and spectacular new gameplay segments," Insomniac Games chief brand officer Ryan Schneider said. "Really, we can’t wait to show it to you."

Earlier today, we learned that Ratchet & Clank animated movie was delayed to next year, and the PlayStation Blog post revealed the exact release date of April 29, 2016. The Ratchet & Clank re-imagining was always set to launch alongside the movie and expand upon its narrative, which explains why the game was delayed as well.

Insomniac said the new Ratchet & Clank will feature several new levels as well as re-imagined locations from the original game like Metropolis. It will also have new weapons and new visuals that take advantage of the PS4's hardware.

To find out more about the Ratchet & Clank movie, check out the voice cast revealed earlier today, including Paul Giamatti as Chairman Drek and John Goodman as Grimroth.

And still no reason to buy an Xbox One unless you have a mental disability.

Exclusive games aren't the only games to play.

So 2 of the only 3 games that I was looking forward to on PS4 are now delayed until 2016 (That's assuming The Last Guardian comes out this year, I haven't been keepng up).

At this point I might as well just pack it up and just concentrate on PC and Xbox 1 for the next year. They seem to be the only things releasing worthwhile exclusives after the summer.

@ExoticCharm: I would be SHOCKED if The Last Guardian came out this year. I would be greatly surprised if it came out in 2016.

Wait, Uncharted 4 & Ratchet & Clank delayed until 2016? So the PS4 literally has no good exclusives in 2015 and, once again, is going to be relying on multiplat titles as it's big holiday sellers like they did with Destiny in 2014? Why is the PS4 selling better than the Xbox One again? I'm still waiting for them to release even one interesting exclusive for this console so I finally have an excuse to go out and buy one, but every time I start to consider it, they take those excuses away. I was really hoping to nab one in a Black Friday sale, but I may just end up waiting for next Xmas now.

@DarkReign2022: The Order, Bloodborne, MLB 15, Toukiden, Tropico 5, Ultra Street Fighter IV, God of War 3, Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded, Grim Fandango, Helldivers, Broken Age, Ether One, No Man's Sky, The Tomorrow Children, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Let it Die, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, The Talos Principle, Drawn to Death, WiLD, Magicka 2, The Witness... I think the PS4 has a fairly diverse library in 2015.

Of course, that's not including the localizations of Godzilla, Persona 5, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3, Disgaea 5, J-Stars Victory VS+, Deception IV, Hatoful Boyfriend, and Onechanbara Z2: Chaos... to name a few.

Not a bad year, but a better year is coming.

@Lacerz@DarkReign2022: Ignoring the fact that most of the games you just listed aren't PS4 exclusive (and undoubtedly much better on the PC) I was referring to big name releases. Small indie games are great on occasion, but when you've dished out $400 fort a next-generation gaming machine, you really don't want to spend the entire console cycle playing games that could've been run on a PS2. That's exactly what you gety with games like Vanishing of Ethan Carter and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Of the ones listed, the only big name games on that list are The Order and Bloodborne, both of which were already released only 3 months into the year, leaving an enormous 9-month gap of nothing and neither of which have gone over particularly well with their fanbases. The Order was a 5-hour long interactive movie and Bloodborne was apparently a subpar poor-mans Dark Souls. God of War 3 is only a HD Remake (not even a real remake like the Master Chief Collection with the overhauled graphics and new content. Just another shameless port with an improved resolution output.) Until Dawn is the mystery on this list at the moment and whether or not it's actually good remains to be seen, but as a multiplayer-only game AND being based on a movie license, it proves how desperate people are for a good exclusive if they're counting that as one of the eggs in their basket. Helldiver is the only game worth it's weight in this list as a major release, but Ninja Theory has had a terrible time with sales in the past and we haven't seen any gameplay footage yet, so really not enough to go on there, similar to XB1's Scalebound.

Not to say it's not a nice advantage having some of these smaller games while the Xbox One does not, but again, most of these games are also on the PC (and even Tropico 5 saw an Xbox 360 release) and there's nothing on this list that would move consoles or entice somebody to commit to the PS4 that doesn't already own one. Persona 5 is probably the biggest game still to come for the PS4 in 2015, but I'm pretty sure the majority of people who enjoy the Persona series already owns a PS4 anyway.

With Uncharted and R&C shooting for 2016 along with hopefully a solid lineup of games from companies like Quantic Dream and Eat Sleep Play, I have high hopes for 2016 making a solid comeback for the Playstation console. 2015 definitely belongs to the Xbox One though.

@DarkReign2022@Lacerz: AAA titles listed... The Order, Bloodborne, MLB 15, Toukiden, Until Dawn, Tearaway, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Tropico 5, God of War III, Persona 5, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3, Disgaea 5, J-Stars Victory VS+, and Deception IV.

You can also add Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward to that list. It's an expansion, but it's basically a new game.

@willjohnboy@DarkReign2022: I though the 360 had a solid library of exclusives last gen, but there were definitely more hidden gems than big-name breakouts for sure. There were certainly a few big budget exclusices like Halo, Alan Wake, and Gears of War, but the smaller games like Viva Pinata, Crackdown, Kameo, and Ninety-Nine Nights really made the Xbox experience. Unfortunately most of it's good exclusive were in the first half of it's lifespan and a lot of that dried up in the second half. That's a large reason of why I'm so happy that the Xbox One is receiving the thrashing it's getting now. Microsoft has to work harder and try to overcome the negative press and it has really amazing stuff on the horizon because of it. This generation has been a disappointment so far, but I'm really excited to see what's to come in the near future.

So, like the ONLY big games we're getting this year are Witcher and Batman. We've come to a time when we're getting 2 great games per year, wonderful.

@redtrevize@Ripper_TV: As much as I love BloodBorne, don't think this guy considers that in his little world.

@Ripper_TV: Dying Light. Ori and the Blind Forest. Splatoon. Just Cause 3. Killing Floor 2. Overwatch. Xenoblade. Star Fox.

And a few more late 2015 games might be announced at E3 next month.

When I get a PS4, this will be on my list along with Uncharted 4. I'd also buy the Uncharted series remade for PS4.

There may be no need for another Resistance... but there was no need to release Killzone alongside COD and BF4 at the console launch but it happened anyway.

@svaubel: we never saw a single screenshot for this game... it's not like the odds were any good that it would release this year anyways. if not for delays, 2015 would be the year of flops, flops, flops... delays make games good in the end, right? unless you are ubisoft of course :D bloodborne, witcher 3, batman ak, mgs v, persona 5, disgaea 5 and dragon quest heroes is a pretty solid lineup for 2015 regardless.

@Xristophoros: Clever call, had one since launch and truly would have liked less of these delays. Or at least some hidden gems popping up.

Without Evil Within or BloodBorne my PS4 would be boxed up in all honesty.
