Paradox has halted development on its upcoming, Norse mythology-themed PlayStation 4 and PC fantasy RPG Runemaster. Paradox COO Susana Meza Graham announced the news in the Paradox forums, explaining that work has been "frozen" on the project, as the team shifts resources to other titles.
"After much internal debate we have made the decision to freeze development of the project until further notice and move the development team working on it to other projects within Paradox Development Studio," she said.

"This was not an easy decision to make--Runemaster was a very ambitious project for us, and the team working on it brought all of their passion, dedication, and talent to the table," Graham added. "Despite our best efforts and a couple of re-scopes, Runemaster in its current form was unable to live up to the standards we set for ourselves here at Paradox."
Graham added that Paradox will use the lessons learned in working on Runemaster and apply them to future projects. She also said that some Runemaster features may be able to be used in other titles.
Graham also suggested that putting Runemaster on hold won't lead to any layoffs.
"Our aim is to let all the talented developers who worked on the project to remain with Paradox Development Studio and bring their expertise to the other great games currently in development," she said.
Runemaster was announced in January 2014 during the Paradox Interactive Convention in Miami, Florida. The game, which focuses on Norse mythology, represents significant departure from Paradox's usual historical strategy offerings. You can see it in action through the video above.
