Good news, PS4 owners: if you have a PS Plus membership and live in the US or Europe, you can play Metal Gear Survive for free this weekend. Between now and Monday, June 4, Konami is letting players download a free trial that contains the entire game. You can download the trial here or by searching for Metal Gear Survive in the PlayStation Store on your PS4.

Any progress you make in the trial can be transferred to the full game if you decide to buy it. And to encourage you to take the plunge, Konami is running a 30 percent discount between now and June 8 on the PlayStation Store. That means you can buy it for $28 instead of the usual $40.

Now Playing: Metal Gear Survive Review

Metal Gear Survive is the first major post-Kojima game set in the Metal Gear universe. It takes place after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes but before The Phantom Pain. You play as a member of Snake's army who gets sucked through a wormhole to find yourself in a harsh alternate reality filled with crazed zombie-like creatures. Here, health, hunger, and thirst become your immediate concerns as you venture out into the unknown in search of resources to stay alive.

The game's reviews were largely middling, but most reviewers found things to praise. In GameSpot's Metal Gear Survive review, our critic found it more demanding and obtuse than he would have liked, but noted, "There's actually a good survival game in there." So if you're a Metal Gear diehard, or are simply interested in trying out a new survival game, this free weekend is a great time to do it.
