PS4 Getting Beautiful 3D Platformer Grow Home

Ubisoft's platformer is coming to PlayStation 4 next month.

Grow Home, the 3D platformer published by Ubisoft, is coming to PlayStation 4 next month.

Ubisoft announced that the game will be released on PS4 on September 1. In the game, players take control of a robot who grows a plant in order to climb into the sky. It was originally released on PC by Ubisoft Reflections, the studio best known for the Driver series.

Interestingly, Grow Home will be on the first roster of Sony's Vote to Play program. Recently, Sony announced that it would begin to let players vote on games they'd like to see as free downloads through PlayStation Plus. Starting August 13, the first batch includes Grow Home, Armello, and Zombie Vikings. If you're a Plus member, you can vote through your PS4. The winning game will be one of the PlayStation Plus games for September.

When Grow Home first launched in February, GameSpot critic Austin Walker thought it was great. He wrote, "Is Grow Home a charming game that's worth your time? Yes. Do I believe this because Grow Home contrasts so sharply with Ubisoft's recent output? Also yes. Yet no matter how prone to cynicism you may be, you shouldn't let this surprising gem go unnoticed." You can read the full review here.

Back in February, soon after Grow Home's original release, Ubisoft stated that it would bring the game to consoles if it sold enough. We've reached out to Ubisoft about if the game will be ported to Xbox One, but it clearly sold enough to justify the company bringing it to PS4.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

I see a lot of people criticizing games like this, and i just don't get it. Are people so averse to playing something off the beaten path? I played this game to completion and thought it was great, as did my daughter. If you look at smaller games like this and scoff and whine about how crappy they are, don't worry, CoD is right around the corner for you.

"PS4 Getting Beautiful 3D Platformer Grow Home"

I guess Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. And in this case, get your eyes checked, mate. There isn't anything beautiful about this game other than you looking through rose colored nostalgia glasses.

Hopefully this will be one of the free games in September. Not specifically excited for Grow Home, but it just looks better than Zombie Vikings.

The third game up for vote, Armello, looks like complete fucking garbage. Its the sort of generic city-building freeware game that Chinese developers crank out by the dozen for cellphones. The kind of game that has flashy boxart, but is actually a bullshit city building game that you either refuse to download or that you download on accident and delete in 2 minutes because they're boring as hell.

@SterlingFox: "The third game up for vote, Armello, looks like complete fucking garbage."

Have you actually looked at the game or are you just making uninformed assumptions because it has nothing in common with mobile games. The game is extremely in depth and has a load of complex systems revolving around it.

I have no problem with people having a different opinion to me, but I feel like your opinion is not based on anything but a 30 second trailer you watched.

Here is a video that goes through some of it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9oT3Oi8nww

Looks like a gamecube game, which says a lot since gamecube is irrelevant.

I actually hope that Grown Home doesn't win the voting so that I can buy it at the discounted price, though I wouldn't begrudge anyone for voting for it, or be bummed if it won :)

@BigPrimeNumbers: Zombie Vikings could win imo. It is a 4 player coop. More fun in general. This is something you play once or twice and move on.

@sleepnsurf: I just like to own the games I really enjoy. Getting the freebies from PS+ is nice, but it's an extended rental that's tied to your subscription. Buying it means I know I don't have any restrictions when it comes to playing it again in the future.

Like I said, however I get it I'll be happy.

@BigPrimeNumbers: that is only true for some games from ps +.. there are two libraries for ps +, instant collection, which do not require one maintain an active plus account, and the others, which do... they are not all lumped in together and online only.

@Mirimon78: I think you might be thinking of Xbox's Games with Gold. The games in the instant collection for Xbox 360 are free indefinitely, but the games in the instant collections (e.g. the freebies) for XONE, and all PS systems are yours only as long as you are a member:

https://community.us.playstation.com/t5/Forum-Frequently-Asked-Questions/PlayStation-Plus-FAQ/td-p/37512373

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/xbox-live-membership/games-with-gold-faq

Games purchased at a discount through either of those services are not subject to this rule, and are yours forever. These particular rules apply to the U.S., but others can apply depending on region.

@BigPrimeNumbers: no... instant collection titles on any ps system are yours regardless if your ps plus sub lapses, then there are the other games each month which require it (most titles). For example, infamous on my ps3 is there no matter what, online or off, with or without ps plus. This was an onld thing that msft was wise enough to emulate.

@Mirimon78:Sadly you are incorrect. If you don't believe me, just log into your account, go to the media tab, and then click "games" on the left; you'll be able to see the expiration dates of all your free PS+ games from there (i.e. when your subscription is up).

There aren't different categories of free games on PS+; they all follow the same terms. In the U.S. I again point you to the official PS+ FAQ: Sony.

Here's a slew of other sites stating the exact same information: GameSpot, IGN, GiantBomb, Reddit, Wikipedia, or just do a Google search of your own!

I WISH we got to keep the freebies, but sadly that's not the case here. Incidentally, being offline is irrelevant for the free games as long as the date of expiration has not passed, and you are playing on your "master" system (for PS4) or activated systems (for PS3 and Vita).

@BigPrimeNumbers: sign out, right now. Now, scroll through your games, remeber the titles you got to choose from way back when when you first got ps plus? Notice how they don't expire?.....(wait a few seconds for expiration dates to be loaded on each title).

For example, I have here 28 games that have NO expiration date... none... no requirement to use psn or ps plus to play either (including uc 3). Stop letting others dictate your beleifs and find out for yourself...

@Mirimon78: Again, signing out/being offline and still playing games is possible because you are playing on a "master"/"activated" system; that aspect is irrespective of what we were talking about originally. If I remove the "master" system status from my PS4 and sign out, all of my digital library (purchased and free) become unusable (go ahead, try it). Similarly, if I "deactivate" my PS3 and sign out, then all of my purchased and free PS+ games are unusable (expiration dates are moot at that point). One last example: I've installed games I own on my friend's PS3, but did not "activate" his console, and those games are unusable for him unless I sign in.

If you personally let your PS+ subscription run out, and you still somehow have access to those free games afterward, then you've some how circumvented Sony's system, which is great for you. Unfortunately for the rest of us - my friends who've let their memberships lapse, and seemingly the rest of the internet - we are not that lucky.

I'm not sure beliefs is really the right word you were looking for there, but I'd urge you to educate yourself on the policies of the services you partake in. Good luck out there mate. I'm out.

@BigPrimeNumbers: the evidence is in your hands (assuming you actually own a sony console and have used ps plus EVER... you would already know this if it were true..I suspect you only ever have had xbl.....).

Very cool addition to PlayStation Plus, great choice. Me personally wouldnt buy it cause it gets old very quick, but as a free game, you cant beat it.
