PS4 Exclusive Shadow of the Beast Release Date and More Announced

The upcoming Shadow of the Beast remake for PlayStation 4 is coming out soon. Developer Heavy Spectrum has announced that the PS4-exclusive will debut on May 17.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Heavy Spectrum CEO Matt Birch revealed that the studio made "significant changes" to the game in the past few months. Among these are updates to the combat mechanics so that they feel "buttery smooth," while main character Aarbron has been given new abilities that aim to provide "much more depth to gameplay." You can see some of these in the video above.

"Shadow of the Beast feels quite different to other combat-adventure games, but hopefully people will find it very rewarding," Birch said.

The new Shadow of the Beast is based on the 1989 Amiga game, which many remarked was quite challenging. The new game will also be tough, if you want it to be, as it will offer a "Beast" difficulty mode that developers say will offer a true challenge.

It has also been announced that everyone who preorders Shadow of the Beast will receive a dynamic theme that displays a new creature designed by Roger Dean, who designed the cover art for the first Shadow of the Beast game. You can see this theme, along with a new screenshot, in the gallery below.

God I hope this isnt has hard as the Amiga version!!!!!! Only managed to complete it after about 2 months. Even then had to be showed how to get past one bit (draw bridge) from a mate. But as for the graphics, music and game play. It was a breath of fresh air.

Lets see if it can be again :-)

I dunno... It doesn't have me sold whatsoever. Anything shown from a gameplay perspective looks incredibly dull. If it has a good world map like Guacamelee, or Ori and the Blind Forest... than perhaps. But it looks like a repetitive mess.

@eddiecowan35: That seems like an odd mix to me. What made you think of this?? I didn't play that much of ninja gaiden. But, from what i did it seemed very fast paced with lots of different move sets. This seems a lot slower and simpler so that I'd think it would drastically change the game that is ninja gaiden.

What is better Shadow of the Beast, Homefront: The Revolution or Battleborn? Already getting other games for Xbox One and PS4 this month and May but no games scheduled for July and August that I am interested in for now... What to choose?

Already pre-ordered Ratchet & Clank, Quantum Break, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Doom. Might get No Man's Sky for June.

@FBohler: It has more games that are better reviewed and that are released more frequently. I have both systems I just haven't really played anything worthwhile on the 1 that wasn't a remaster or a collection of previous games. We have different opinions, that's life bud.

And no, PS4 owners aren't happy with their system of choice, hence the amount of trollage they make on any MS related topic just to justify their purchase. They're so desperate that try to make sales figures and screen resolution look like their console is better. I picked the X1 because I wanted to have a console, and its controller is far superior. When I want good graphics, PC ftw.

Having owned the original, so glad this is finally coming out. There wasn't any info on this and I thought it was dead. The original was hard but also had limited controls due to the joysticks on the market at the time. Maybe the original is in this version, too? This looks like God of War to a degree, good thing as Sony's ass dragging on info for the next one.

@e3man01:Back in those days, most of my Amiga titles were copies, except this one...the Amiga version was the best regarding audio, etc...the Sega Genesis version is actually supposed to be the hardest version, but they are all tough...never finished the game, but loved the intro and the multi parallax that was still new and original. It bothers me that I gave the original game away when I sold my Amiga 1200 over 20 years ago....

Definitely supporting this game. We can't get enough side-scrolling Beat em Ups. Shame it's a single player game, looks like Mother Russia Bleeds will fill that void of a coop BeU.
