See our nominees for PS4 Game of the Year
2014 was huge for the PS4, but which game do we think should take out the title of best for the year?

The PlayStation 4 got off to a great start in 2014, but there weren't many standout exclusives worth raving about. No matter, because it received a healthy library of third party games that proved just how powerful Sony's most recent console is, and the types of experiences that are possible when developers have more resources to work with.

Ubisoft's massive open-world shooter Far Cry 4 gave players a wide range of activities to tackle in the wilderness of the Himalayas, if you were so inclined, and you could get into mischief with a buddy thanks to its flexible co-op support. BioWare delivered a massive RPG in Dragon Age Inquisition, giving players a huge cast to interact with and a wealth of choices to make which left a lasting impact on your story. You could almost say the same of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's nemesis system. Your actions influenced the world around you, and the enemies you faced were forever changed depending on the outcome of battles. If you fell in battle, they became stronger. If you defeated a powerful Orc, you might have witnessed their comrades climb the ranks in the Orc army. It wasn't all big blockbuster titles that made our list. Supergiant Games' Transistor stole our hearts with its techno-noir setting and tone, and its non-traditional turn-based/real-time battle system gave you multiple avenues to strategize in combat. These games and more made 2014 a great year for PlayStation 4 owners, but choosing the best of the bunch is a difficult task as a result.
