PlayStation 3 owners who want booming sound without noise complaints from the neighbors will be in luck this September. That's when Sony will release the official wireless headset for the PlayStation 3, the latest officially sanctioned accessory for the gaming console.

Priced at $99.99, the headset will sport 7.1 virtual surround sound and a retractable microphone as well as an easily accessible microphone mute button. Battery status and sound control will also be displayed onscreen via a headset status update.

The PS3 headset is the latest Sony-stamped peripheral for the PS3. The console also has a specially designed soundbar, which simulates surround sound with a built-in subwoofer. There's also a $50 PS3-branded Bluetooth wireless headset, which was bundled with SOCOM: Confrontation back in 2008.
