PS3 DC Universe, Free Realms players promised a 'make good'

In light of PSN downtime, SOE says its personal information databases are secure, promises redress for outage; details to come later.

The PlayStation Network security breach saw the personal data (and potentially credit card information) of an estimated 77 million registered users laid bare to unknown parties with unknown motives. However, the impact of the resulting downtime is entirely clear to PlayStation 3 owners with a penchant for online-focused games. Among the titles rendered unplayable due to the outage is a pair of massively multiplayer offerings from Sony Online Entertainment: DC Universe Online and the free-to-play Free Realms.

Can our heroes right injustice and overcome the diabolical threat known only as The Unauthorized Person? Tune in next week to find out!

On the DC Universe Online forums Tuesday, SOE community relations admins posted a pair of notes to users impacted by the outage. First off, the representatives said that SOE's user systems and databases are separate from those of the PlayStation Network and SOE has no reason to believe its security was breached.

Second, the company offered an apology to players and said it would be offering promotions on its PC portfolio of games this weekend "to thank players for their patience." As for the PS3 players of DC Universe Online and Free Realms, the SOE representative said the company is "working on a 'make good' plan" for them, with details to be available soon.

@partytimekegs Because the renewing was because of a possible fraud, banks are not allowed to charge for changing your card. I changed mine today explaining this situation and they didn't charge me anything.

@Marky360 The difference is that DCU is pay to play and Free Realms has pay to play aspects. Those are the only games they could "technically" be sued over as you are losing out on something you paid for. The other games are all free to play so people will just have to suck it up and move forward after this is all done.

Sony's going to make good with us Free Realms and DC Universe Online players? I bet it's just going to be some useless piece of crap armor that becomes obsolete after level 5 in those games. If they want to make good, they should refund people the amount they paid for their subscriptions, but let them keep playing until the time those subscriptions would have expired. And in the case of those of us who paid for Lifetime Memberships for Free Realms, we'd get our money back and keep playing for that lifetime.

DCU players should at a minimum be given free play for X number of days. (X being how many days PSN is offline). This would just be a minimum. Personally I would say players should all get a free month on their account, and they should have some sort of "double xp" or other similar event for a few days after PSN is back online.
