Project Cars is 1080p on PS4, 900p on Xbox One, Up to 12K on PC

Both console editions will run at 60fps, however, while PC frame rate will depend on your setup.

In a new FAQ about upcoming racing game Project Cars, developer Slightly Mad Studios has revealed resolution and frame rate details for the gorgeous-looking title.

No Caption Provided

Here's quick breakdown, courtesy of Slightly Mad:

  • Up to 12K resolution on PC (frame rate dependent on PC hardware; PC specs listed below)
  • 1080p, 60 frames per second on PlayStation 4
  • 900p, 60 frames per second on Xbox One

In September 2014, Slightly Mad said it was aiming for both the PS4 and Xbox One editions of Project Cars to run at 1080p, but it now appears the developer was not able to pull it off for Microsoft's new console.

Resolution and frame rate details for the Wii U edition of Project Cars will be announced later.

Slightly Mad also announced that Project Cars will not feature a split-screen mode. "In order to achieve the target of 60 frames per second, there is no split-screen mode," the developer explained.

As for why Project Cars is not coming to Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, Slightly Mad said those platforms' technical specifications aren't good enough to deliver an uncompromised version of the game.

After its third delay, Project Cars is now scheduled to launch in mid-May for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A release date for the Wii U version has not been announced.

PROJECT CARS PC SPECIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM SPEC

  • CPU – 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
  • GRAPHICS – nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
  • MEMORY – 4 GB RAM, 1 GB VRAM

RECOMMENDED SPEC

  • CPU – 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700, 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350
  • GRAPHICS – nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
  • MEMORY – 8 GB RAM, 2 GB VRAM

@SSEEXX:

I read it was not true 12k. It's 3 monitors spread in front of you, each running 4k, so there's your 12k in total, but still very impressive if you have the money to buy such a monster. Personally, I'm perfectly happy with what the PS4 is pushing out in the latest gameplay videos.

When you mature you realise the grass is always greener on the other side, and somebody else always has something better, so you just have to learn where to draw the line and set a threshold that you're happy to settle on for a given budget.

I'm only buying one racer this gen on PS4 so I want the best. This looks like it ticks all the boxes. High quality graphics, silky smooth, great handling and nice tracks with plenty of variety. Grand Turismo 7 has missed the boat.

I won't be playing it, but the 60 fps is more important. There's a bigger difference between 30 fps and 60 and 900p and 1080.

Like most people are saying almost no one will get to see 12k, but it's cool that they support it anyway.

How many gamers have 3 monitors or a PC monster capable of feeding them.. That's what you need for 12k gaming on offer here. 3 x 4k = 12k.

So MK X and Forza and many more games run 1080p just fine on Xbox One but the devs could only muster 900p??

It is now obvious that many devs are either not good enough to code for Xbox or they prefer working for sony ps4.

Forza is better and looks way more stylish than this game and it hits 1080p, so my question is why couldnt these devs hit 1080p???

Im starting to see a pattern here. Many 3rd party games are coming out focused on ps4 and half assing with the Xbox One version.

MK X, State of Decay, Far Cry 4, GTA5, the list goes on... can make it work for the Xbox One but others like Witcher 3, Dragon Age, and Battlefield dont put in the time.

Im okay with it though cos I skipped all those games and will refuse to support these devs!!! I dont mind 900p games honestly but you can tell when devs are just focused on ps4 and then half ass Xbox versions of the game.

MK X has WAY WAY more content than this racing game and hit 1080p with 60fps on Xbox One..... Its depends on the devs at this point... Both consoles can hit 1080p 60fps but some devs are clearly sony supporters.

I say dont make the game for Xbox if your going to half ass it.

@ruelas420:

Instead of complaining, why don't you just buy a PS4 and enjoy the games. That's what I would do if it was the other way around. My gaming needs come first, not some misplaced loyalty to any particular manufacturer. The reason why the XB1 runs the game 900p is because Project Cars is doing far more tech than Forza.

Why can't you guys just face the truth and admit the XB1 is just not powerful enough to equal what the PS4 is pushing out. I have been telling you for ages that it's written in the hardware specs, but you all dismissed it claiming it will be fine due to some secret sauce. Now that it's perfectly clear there is a problem, you're blaming the devs.

How about blaming MS for giving you a lame multimedia console that isn't optimise for gaming. Is that unthinkable. The XB1 is a good games console, but it's just not as good as the PS4. If you're happy with second best, then stop moaning and stop trying to allocate blame. Be happy with what you have got or jump ship.

It's very easy to hide behind exclusives because you cannot directly compare how the competition would have handled it, but 3rd party multiplats show the truth in all its glory. Like it or not.

It's all about if the actual console can handle the justifiable content. Playstation 4 and Xbox One are not identical in hardware performance. Playstation 4 has a larger GPU in its APU that is twice the size of the Xbox One with more CU's, complimented by a fast and sustained memory pool. Play station 4 technically has %50 more hardware advantage over Xbox One. Jumping from 900p to 1080p while also keeping the same graphical settings is %50 percent more pixels. The developers do not favor a particular console: It's either they sacrifice resolution on the Xbox One or sacrifice graphical fidelity to match close the Playstation 4.

I think it's the resources and time the extra work to make the game 1080p on the xbone compared to the ps4. Very similar to the last generation where ps3 suffered lower performance. They allocate the same amount of time to each system but one take significant more effort.

Are you retarded? The ps4 has more 1080p games simply because the gpu it's a little stronger.

Yeah any game can hit 1080p if you lower the graphics quality enough, however some developers choose to keep the graphics the same for both consoles, and are forced to lower the resolution for the xbox to hit their targetted frame rate.

Games do not consist of frame rate and resolution only, theres also the graphical quality and that's something a lot of the whiners forget about.

@ruelas420: Forza 5 has pre-baked lighting, no weather, and 16 cars on track. Project CARS has full dynamic time of day and time of year, full weather systems including cloud and puddle generation, and 45 cars on track.

Project CARS also has higher-detail car models, more serious damage, and much more advanced physics with a higher rate of processing (600Hz). It's not exactly a great direct comparison.

@ruelas420: I was under the impression that most of these games were upscaled to 1080p...

Regardless, once the upscale takes place you are looking at a difference so minimal, it becomes irrelevant. Also...how many 3rd party games running on new graphics engines even hit 1080p at 60fps?

<< LINK REMOVED >>

If you take a look at that...both consoles fail pretty consistently at hitting that native benchmark...and that is where up-scaling comes into the picture.

Bottom line...if all people are concerned with is resolutions and benchmarks...they should buy a PC...the games are fine the way they are on consoles and the differences (unless you bring 4k into the equation) are minimal at best.

@Articuno76: It all depends on the kind of game. Project CARS is heavy on physics simulation, which is generally CPU-bound. GTA features a large world with lots of uniquely-acting AI, and fairly intense physics simulation, so it is CPU-bound as well.

Well we are now 1.5 years into the life cycle of both consoles so the devs would have been getting use to any difficulties on any platform by now. The XB1 is now definitely the weaker console, proving everyone was right about the consequences of using lame multimedia hardware. It's now the norm that whenever a big AAA title pushes the boat out, the PS4 runs 1080p and the XB1 runs 900p.

I've grown tired of racers over the years so I will only buy one racer this gen. Obviously I will get the best. The choice is between Project Cars and Grand Turismo 7. GT7 is not due any time soon, so that means I'm forced to delay my decision and watch how Project Cars performs. I'm bored with running rings around grey flat race circuits, so the game that gives me rural racing through countryside with rocky cliffs and tunnels will win my vote.

Multiplayer or online features will not play any part in that decision because multiplayer racing is fatally flawed. Just like real F1 racing, the guy with the best car always wins regardless of skill. And then you have network latency gimping you even further. Racers only work fairly when racing against AI.

@justerthought: Forza is 1080p on Xbox one. COD plays like shit on ps4... Enough with that Xbox one is weaker bullshit!!! Xbox One actually runs a lot more than ps4 is capable of doing at the same time.

Both consoles are good!! Plus the colours on the Xbox One blow the ps4 away ive noticed. Some thing with anti aliasing issues.. Xbox One works just fine, so how is ps4 a more powerful console when it doesnt have anti aliasing? Answer me that juster?

@retromanhd@justerthought:

I considered Driveclub but the game only runs 30fps, looks way too dark and I don't like the social focus that clutters the interface. The social aspect also makes it far too reliant on the servers running smoothly. I prefer Forza's graphical style to Grand Turismo or Driveclub. Project Cars ticks all the boxes and seems to offer a polished package that has some really aggressive driving to spark some life back into the genre.

@MohammadSubhan1: Think it's mainly to get some clicks on this page for the advertisers that run ads on it. But you're right - it's pointless. Yes of course pc's will have much better res and / or fps (depending on build) but really - who cares!! It's really boring hearing all the little kids shouting...."wawawah - but halo was bugged!! Wawah - yeah - but the Order only lasted 20 minutes". Give it a rest kids.

This looks like a fantastic game and I'm REALLY looking forward to playing it - on my xbox. I'm not crying about it, i'm not particularly worried about it - it will run brilliantly on my 40" tv with my driving seat / steering wheel right in front of it.

Come on Project Cars!!

@maghdie:

It's not referring to 12k or 4K HD TV screens. it's high res computer monitors. When playing on a computer monitor your face is really close to the screen so the jaggies are easier to see. That means, in order to get to a point where the jaggies are not an issue. you need to game at a higher res on PC when linked to a monitor than you do on console linked to a 1080p HD TV.

The distance you sit from a HD TV and the fact that it naturally performs a sort of smoothing anti aliasing due to it not being as precise and clinical as a computer monitor.

@jrtexx@maghdie:

You don't need a 50" TV to see the difference between 720p and 1080p. The choice of screen size is determined by the size of your room and the distance you sit from the TV. If done correctly, you always end up with the TV looking a similar size from where you are sitting so the pixels are visually the same size as well.

If you buy a 50" TV for a small room so that you are sitting too close at around 6 feet, then you are going to see a lot of jaggies even with a 1080p screen because the pixels are bigger.

You are too close if you have to start moving your head to look at each area of the screen. You should be able to view it by just moving your eyes with a static head. Under those circumstances, anyone with normal eyesight can see the difference between 720p, 900p and 1080p.

@HippyTrippy: To be fair, the tradeoff with choosing the higher resolution options in GT5 and GT6 was a much less stable framerate - if you wanted as good a framerate as Forza 4 you had to stick to 720p. It also used a stretched upscale.

@HippyTrippy: GT titles on PS3 also recycled assets from PS2 games, so it's not like they were pushing the system as hard as Forza was pushing the 360.

And lots of people have complained about that practice. In fact, it is the main reason why I'm looking forward to this game more than the inevitable GT for PS4.
