Producer of WW2 FPS Battalion 1944 Says He's "Beyond Excited" for Battlefield 5

"I am beyond excited."

With the next Battlefield game scheduled to come out relatively soon, it looks like publisher Electronic Arts is now showing it off to people. One person who apparently got a peek at the game was Joe Brammer, the executive producer of World War 2 first-person shooter Battalion 1944.

In a tweet, which has since been deleted but was captured on NeoGAF, Brammer said, "I've seen things #BF5 things and I am beyond excited."

After receive an onslaught of responses, Brammer deleted the tweet. He has since said, "Ha, clearly a mistake on my part! A massive oversight on the desperation for squeezing information! ;)"

Some have also theorized that Brammer's tweet about Battlefield 5 is evidence that the game is set in World War 2. Brammer said he doesn't follow this line of thinking.

"Yeh there is like 0 logic in this analysis lol," he said when presented with the idea that because Battalion 1944 is a World War 2 game, Battlefield 5 would be as well.

In February, a Swiss retailer reportedly listed Battlefield 5 as being set in World War 1. EA has not yet confirmed any official details about the game, but with its release approaching, we're expecting more information soon.

Battlefield 5, or whatever EA decides to call the game, will launch during the second half of EA's fiscal year. That translates to sometime between October 2016 and March 2017. This is the same release window for Titanfall 2 and Mass Effect: Andromeda.

It's possible EA will share more details on Battlefield 5 during its E3 briefing in June, but this is not confirmed.

Oh no, please no, don't be WW2, that's too far back. I don't like that "Advance" bullshit like others game out there, but I prefer a 2142 sequel 10 times vs a WW2 game.

I'm so ready for WW2, that would be awesome. I'm so tired of high tech abilities, take battlefront as an example, you know that kill streak will be ruined by some over the top perk that has nothing to do with player skills. I don't think WW2 will feel old (in a gaming sense) at all, but relieving.

@thegoodhustler: Would love that as well, back when 1943 came out(The lite remake) I was so overjoyed that they might return to their roots and 43 would have been testing the waters. Either way I would thoroughly enjoy another WW2 Battlefield(Needs so Italians added in next time along with some North African maps).

@Smosh150: One thing I like about a WW2 setting is lack of tech and gadgets forcing the game to be more about straight combat tactics. However that's exactly what most shooter fans don't want now, people love all the gadgets and gear and tech and upgrades and such. Progressing to unlock all that stuff has been the main driver of all the successful multiplayer shooters for a long time now, so going back to WW2 just seems way too limiting for any big AAA game now.

@hystavito: Tis quite a shame. Guess in the mean time I'll be playing RO2 until Festung Europa makes any progress or some AAA dev decides that they can make WW2 appeal to all.

Time to make a 2142 sequel? As much as I love modern conflicts, it becomes a bit stale when it comes to BF(At least to me).

@Smosh150: they can't have 2142 and battlefront at the same time....wouldnt make sense for them to do that

Avatar image for Smosh150
Smosh150

@thegoodhustler: In what way? Battlefront uses plasma weapons, 2142 uses projectile. Battlefront has little focus on vehicles, 2142 has a multitude of vehicles and mechs which play a critical role. Battlefront lacks Titans and modes that are similar to Titan Assault. Battlefront gameplay is not the same as Battlefield. 2142 is sci fi, that is the only thing these two really have in common(Name me something else that isn't silly like them being sci-fi? Quite different areas as well, it would be like comparing WW2 to Modern).

What wouldn't make sense is for them to create a game that competes with Battlefront in terms of similar universes and gameplay. Might as well say they should cancel BF5(If it is modern) because Battlefield 4 and 3 are already out and they can milk those instead.

I really doubt this new BF game will be anything other than a modern day setting, but hey, I like surprises so we'll see. I'd be happy with pretty much any setting if the game is good, ditches the SP in favour of more MP maps, and doesn't gouge people with a premium edition that's all but mandatory.... crap, I'm probably not gonna like it lol.

Seriously though, more maps and BETTER maps, that's what I want to see more than anything, shipping a MP centric game with only 8 maps just feels so weak, especially when so many of them are bland, and the more confined ones feel like they have no place in a large scale shooter like Battlefield.

@nl_skipper: Yep. Small maps with little airspace, cramped vehicle combat and almost all at day time in a semi-urban areas.

WW1 is kinda boring for a video game imo - sit here in this trench boy..

Avatar image for Smosh150

@heydink: Check out a game called Verdun, I can most certainly guarantee you that a WW1 game is not as you described(I mean you of course do sit in a trench when defending, but phases only last about 2-3 minutes. Even then you have to move around in a very complicated and large trench network while you have gas and shells all around you with enemies pouring into it).

Avatar image for i_am_kesmonkey

@heydink: You may want to consult the history books. There was a hell of a lot more to World War 1 than just trench warfare. World War 1, as the name suggests, was a global war. The images of trench warfare you're familiar with are representative only of the Western Front in Europe.

I'm looking forward to both games. It's unlikey BF5 will be WW1/2 and it'll either be set during the modern day or a successor to BF2142. If it is set in the future, I might skip this Battlefield and play Battalion 1944 or Day of War. As tired as I am of modern military shooters, I would personally take another one over 2143 (or whatever they would call it).

After BF4 and Hardline I find it hard to think anybody in their right mind would be that excited for BF5. Release remasters of 1942 through 2142 and show the young generations, including my own, what they've missed out on.

Avatar image for nl_skipper

@vh0515: It took a looong time to get where it should have been though, but it was solid in the end. My biggest complaint with it is still the maps though, at least half of them are throw away imo, versus older games in the series (specifially BF2) that had so many great maps with a lot of different terrain and dynamics. All these new maps just feel like one half is a mirror image of the other, with massive swaths of open space between each checkpoint.

@vh0515: yea I still play BF4 and Hardline.. I dunno what kind of crack kids these days smoke.

I'm excited for both games. And i hope BF does go to WW1. It's different, unique, and EA will make it fun, as they make all the war games fun. You mean to tell me war is like BF 4? Lol. It's all fantasy, and WW1 will be awesome, as well as more WW2 games. I wish them all the best of luck, and can't wait. Just no more Modern or Future War genre's please.

I'm not excited unless it's Bad Company 3. Bad Company brought me into the franchise and after the huge disappointment that was BF3 in which they downgraded everything except for movement mechanics and graphics, I stopped caring for the series.

Avatar image for Smosh150

@cboye18: It would be 3rd in my pick, but I would have to agree that it would be quite amazing as I though the BC series was quite fantastic. Would rather see WW2 and 2142 before BC though.

@lomar07: BC2 was definitely great. But cboye is in the minority here, BF4 was also great and 5 would be awesome too.

I'm telling you, that WWI listing was a typo. Battlefield 5 might just be returning to WWII.

It's much easier a transition for this franchise than it would be for Call of Duty, where the multiplayer has gotten so fast paced that it wouldn't make sense with a WWII aesthetic.
