After hinting at its existence in a recent investor call, Ubisoft finally coughed up some official details and screens for its upcoming Prince of Persia game for the PSP. The tentatively named Prince of Persia PSP (working title) is being developed by veteran developer Pipeworks, who has cut its teeth on much bigger game subjects, namely Godzilla and his crew, in two 3D fighters for Atari. Surprisingly, the new game is not a port of the upcoming Two Thrones title, but rather an update of last year's Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

The game's story will revolve around the heroic prince's race to save his own life in the wake of his time-traveling exploits in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, seen on consoles in 2003. The prince's actions have made him the target of the Dahaka, agents of Fate looking for retribution. Though the game will follow this basic plot and feature many of the same levels and enemies, the upcoming PSP game is being positioned as more than just a port. New puzzles, new maps, and redesigned levels are all being worked into the game. The free-form combat system is also being bulked up, with a new projectile-attack system that expands your attack options even more. The visuals appear to come close to the console versions, thanks to detailed environments, moody lighting, and a surprising amount of particle effects.

Prince of Persia PSP (working title) is currently slated to ship this December. Look for more on the game soon.
