Pokemon Sword and Shield's first expansion, The Isle of Armor, has arrived, and it takes players to a new island area that's home to many returning Pokemon that weren't previously available in the games, including some old favorites like Scyther and Alakazam. Those aren't the only monsters you can discover there, however; both expansions also introduce some new Pokemon to the series, including new Legendaries and Galarian forms, and you can take a look at some of the new monsters that await in the DLC below.

Although the new and returning Pokemon can only be found in the wild in the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, you don't need to own the DLC to get them; you can still receive them in trades or import them from previous games via Pokemon Home. You can also join any Max Raids featuring the newly added Pokemon that other players are hosting, provided you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

If you do want to pick up the expansions, however, they're bundled together as part of the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass for $30 USD. Buying the pass will get you a few other bonuses as well, such as special clothing items for your trainer based on Leon's cap and tights. You can learn more in our Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion pre-order guide.

New Pokemon In The Isle Of Armor

Galarian Slowbro

In Isle of Armor, Galarian Slowpoke will be able to evolve into Galarian Slowbro. Unlike a standard Slowbro, this Galar-exclusive variant is a Poison/Psychic type that can learn a special move called Shell Side Arm, which fires poisonous liquid from the Shellder that's clamped down on its arm. Galarian Slowbro also has a new Ability called Quick Draw.

Gigantamax Venusaur and Blastoise

Kanto starters Venusaur and Blastoise will gain Gigantamax forms in Isle of Armor. You can pick a free Bulbasaur or Squirtle with the Gigantamax Factor as part of your training in the Master Dojo, but if you already have one of those Pokemon in your collection, you can feed them Max Soup and they'll gain the ability to Gigantamax.

Like other Gigantamax Pokemon, each monster has its own exclusive G-Max move. Gigantamax Venusaur's attack, G-Max Vine Lash, damages non-Grass-type foes for four turns. Gigantamax Blastoise, meanwhile, is able to use G-Max Cannonade, which similarly damages non-Water-type opponents for four turns.

New Pokemon In The Crown Tundra

Regieleki and Regidrago

The second Sword and Shield expansion, The Crown Tundra, will introduce a handful of new Legendary Pokemon to the games, including two new Regis. The first, Regieleki, is an Electric type that is able to learn an exclusive attack called Thunder Cage. This move traps opponents, preventing them from switching out, and damages them every turn.

The second new Regi is called Regidrago, and it's a Dragon type formed of "crystallized dragon energy." Like Regieleki, Regidrago is able to learn its own exclusive attack called Dragon Energy, which inflicts greater damage the more HP Regidrago has. It also has a new Ability called Dragon's Maw.

Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres

The Crown Tundra will also introduce Galarian forms of the three classic Legendary birds, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Each of these has a new typing and Ability. Galarian Articuno is a Psychic/Flying type that can freeze foes with a Psychic-type attack called Freezing Glare. Galarian Zapdos is a Fighting/Flying type that can learn the move Thunderous Kick. Galarian Moltres, meanwhile, is a Dark/Flying type capable of using a new attack called Fiery Wrath.
