Pokemon Sun/Moon Event Flops as Players Don't Come Close to Catching 100 Million

One in a million.

Pokemon Sun and Moon features a number of worldwide challenges that all players can join in with. The first of these started in November, challenging players to collectively catch 100 million Pokemon across the two games. Unfortunately, it seems the Pokemon-playing public didn't even get close.

Though the official English blog post simply says the 100 million goal was "just missed," the Japanese announcement states that Pokemon Trainers the world over managed just 16.5 million. Here's hoping the next event is somewhat more successful.

Beating the challenge would have rewarded all those who took part with 100 Festival Coins. Instead, they get a 100 coin consolation prize, with double rewards if they registered their game sync ID at the Pokemon Global Link.

In other Pokemon Sun and Moon news, the games' starter Pokemon reveal trailer placed in the top 10 most popular video game trailers of 2016, and were also part of GameSpot's five best 3DS games of the year.

2016's other big Pokemon game, Pokemon Go, came in our top five mobile games of the year list, and just recently got an update introducing new generation 2 creatures.
