To get your hands on a Bloodmoon Ursaluna you will need to complete this side quest in The Teal Mask DLC.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's first DLC, The Teal Mask, has arrived, bringing more Pokemon to the game. There are a bunch of returning Pokemon, a few new ones, and a couple of special forms only available in this DLC. One of those special Pokemon is the Bloodmoon Ursaluna, a variant of Ursaluna that is much stronger. You won't find them in the wild though, as they can only be found as part of a special side quest. Here's how to find a Bloodmoon Ursaluna in The Teal Mask.

How to start the Bloodmoon Ursaluna side quest

Perrin will take you on a quest to find the Bloodmoon Ursaluna, but you need to catch 150 Kitakami Pokemon first.

The quest is started by speaking to Perrin, a woman with green and black hair taking photos in Mossui Town, just west of the Pokemon Center. However, that isn't the only prerequisite for starting this quest. You will need to have caught 150 Pokemon in the Kitakami Pokedex. This is not all of the Pokemon in the area, although it's a pretty healthy chunk.

Luckily, the Kitakami Pokedex features a decent amount of crossover with the regular Paldea Pokedex, so you should have a decent head start. You don't need to finish the main quest to start this side quest, but the four Legendary Pokemon introduced in the DLC cannot be caught without finishing that side quest.

Once you have 150 Pokemon caught in Kitakami, Perrin will ask you to prove your strength by battling her. Luckily, she only has two Pokemon, neither of which are too tough. After winning, Perrin tells you of her search for the Bloodmoon Beast and that she wants to snag a photo of them, at which point you have the opportunity to catch them. You now need to meet her in the Timeless Woods, the forest area in the northeastern corner of the map.

The next steps are to take photos of 10 different Pokemon on foggy nights. You don't need to wait until the weather changes, as talking to Perrin will automatically make it a foggy night. You will need to crouch and sneak around to get relatively close and snag a photo of the different Pokemon. If you get too close and move too fast, the Pokemon will get startled and run away.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna is ground-normal type, so a water Pokemon will be super effective.

Once completed, Perrin will ask if you are ready to deal with the Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Once you say yes, a short cutscene will lead into the fight. This fight functions like a Titan battle, with the Bloodmoon Ursaluna having a massive health bar. You also won't need to attempt to catch them mid-battle and instead will have the option at the end of the fight, once you have defeated them. For the fight, Ursaluna is a ground-normal type, but they have the special ability to hit ghost type Pokemon with their moves, so keep that in mind. They will repeatedly use calm mind to increase their special attack and defense, so the quicker you can win the better.

Once you beat and catch the Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Perrin tells you to meet back in Mossui Town. Head back and she will give you your other quest rewards, including a Hisuian Growlithe.
