Various Gen 5 Pokemon will also be appearing in Raids during the Unova Celebration, including Genesect. The Mythical Pokemon will return as a five-star Raid Boss until January 12, and this time around it will be equipped with the Burn Drive, making this your first opportunity to catch this Genesect form in Pokemon Go.

Finally, Niantic will offer a number of different activities to complete during the event, including exclusive Field Research tasks that will reward you with Stardust and Gen 5 Pokemon encounters. The developer is also introducing a new kind of activity called Collection Challenges. These will be displayed in the Today View menu and ask you to catch specific Pokemon.

The Unova Celebration runs until 8 PM local time on January 10. You can read more about the event on the official Pokemon Go blog. Niantic will hold other region-specific celebrations in the lead up to next month's big Kanto Tour event. A Sinnoh Celebration is slated to follow from January 12-17, although no further details have been announced just yet.

There are a lot of other events happening this month in Pokemon Go. The game's first Community Day of 2021 takes place on Saturday, January 16. This month's featured Pokemon is Machop, and it'll be able to learn the Dark-type attack Payback if you can evolve it all the way into Machamp up to two hours after the Community Day ends.
