PlayStation2 Shortage Situation

New PlayStation2 shipments arrive in some of Japan's retail stores and once again sell out almost immediately.

Comments

Ever since the initial PlayStation2 launch madness in Japan it has been exceedingly difficult for consumers to find the consoles in stores. Over the weekend, however, another shipment of PlayStation2 systems made its way to several stores in Tokyo and once again ignited PS2 fever. The Yodabashi Camera store in Shinjuku saw lines around the block most of Saturday, and several other stores in the Akihabara game district saw large crowds as well. But all of the units in the new shipment have sold out once again, leaving lots of gamers PS2-less once again. We haven't confirmed when the next batch of units will hit stores, but Japanese sources speculate that more consoles will be available next weekend.

On another note, the new PlayStation2 packages that hit stores last weekend included the new System Disc, version 1.01. This new disc will not let users enter codes that prompt the system to play American DVD-Roms, a flaw in the version 1.00 System Disc.
