Sony has kept quiet on its PlayStation VR headset in recent months, but that's going to change soon. GDC has been a special place for PSVR in recent years. It was during GDC 2014 that Sony originally announced PSVR, known at the time as Project Morpheus. At GDC 2015, Sony announced a new prototype version of PSVR and confirmed that the headset would launch in the first half of 2016.

Sony didn't say, or provide any teases, for what it may announce this year. Two of the biggest unanswered questions are the release date and price.

According to GameStop CEO Paul Raines, PSVR might not make its first half of 2016 release window, as he said in a recent interview that the device is scheduled to arrive this fall. As for pricing, a report suggested the device--which runs on PlayStation 4--would cost $400-$600.

By comparison, the Oculus Rift costs $600, while the HTC Vive goes for $800. Those two devices also require a capable PC, while PSVR runs on any of the 36 million PS4s already out there today. The Rift consumer model arrives at the end of March, while HTC Vive is coming out in April.

GDC 2016 officially runs March 14-18 in San Francisco.
