As of right now, Sony is offering movies and TV shows through the PlayStation Store. We jumped on a PlayStation 3 down at GameSpot's E3 HQ to see how the store looks for ourselves.
The main menu is divided into new arrivals, movies, TV, "available in HD", rental, purchase, top downloads and anime--although not the sort you're thinking of. Content is available in SD and HD formats with rentals setting you back $1.99 for TV episodes and between $2.99 to $5.99 for movies, whereas movie purchases are set at $9.99 - $14.99.
There's a new video tab at the top of the PSN store, and you shouldn't have any problems navigating through it if you've used PSN before. A quick flick through the movies revealed 266 titles (including 53 HD titles) so far, from new blockbusters like 1000BC, Cloverfield, and Beowulf to old classics in Robocop, Wargames and even Cheech and Chong.
A&E, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, Fox, FX, History Channel, Military Channel, Sony, TLC, and truTV all have TV shows on offer. Personal favourites include: 24, Mythbusters, Robot Chicken and Astro Boy although sadly there's no Seinfeld yet--why, oh why, Sony?
[UPDATE]: For those Brits and Aussies wondering when the service will launch in their regions, get the official word for SCEE in this story.
