Sony has announced the lineup of free games PlayStation Plus members on PS4, PS3, and Vita will receive this month. As usual, there is the assortment of six games, three of which are launching on their respective platforms for the first time in October.

On PS4, the most notable game is the bonus one--Driveclub: PlayStation Plus Edition. This is the free version of the game we've been hearing about for more than a year, which consists of a sampling of the full version's content. You'll get access to online and offline modes, but are restricted to 10 cars and one country's events.

Along with this, Plus members on PS4 get Dust: An Elysian Tail and the immensely replayable Spelunky. Both of these games make their debut on PS4 in October, and, in the case of Spelunky, you'll get Cross-Buy support with the PS3 and Vita versions.

PS3 owners get two older, high-quality games. There's Batman: Arkham Asylum, the first game in the Arkham series, and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, the downloadable collection of classic D&D games Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara.

Finally, there are Vita's two games: Rainbow Moon (available on PS3, too) and Pix the Cat, the latter of which launches for the first time in October and will also be available on PS4.

Unfortunately, because October begins today, on a Wednesday, you'll need to wait until next Tuesday, October 7, before these games go free.

<< LINK REMOVED >> "free version" is a portion of a sentence describing how it is much more than a demo. It has multiplayer and unlimited playability and a whole bunch of other things more than a regular demo would.

Who could possibly complain about that? :-)

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Maybe you're not familiar with the topic. Long time ago, they promised that Driveclub for PS+ will have ~90% of full version content. They said it will lack few tracks and cars. Now, they release it as a 1/5 of the game. So basicly, they lied to us.

My interest in DriveClub died when I saw the car list. Forza Horizon 2's release then buried it completely. Seriously, how do you have a racing game with only 55 cars, NONE of which are American OR Japanese? And no vehicle customization? It's inexcusable.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Very well said, I pre-ordered ages ago and as soon as I read pretty much the exact points you mentioned... I cancelled.

Only 50 cars, only 5 tracks, no open world, no car customization.. No buy.

I'm waiting for the PS Plus edition to tide me over until The Crew comes out.

How dare they say "55 tracks with 5 locations"

It is 5 tracks, 5 locations and 55 variations. Truly a massive disappointment that we had to wait this long for something so lacking in content.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Actually it's only 50 according to most websites I've seen. How great is that? Full price game with only 5 locations, 50 cars and the lay out of a simulation racing game that has arcade-style driving physics.

Stick to the PS Plus edition, it will still have these cars:

Hot-Hatches

  • Mini John Cooper Works GP
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI

Sports

  • Bentley Continental GT Speed
  • Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

Performance

  • BMW M3 GTS
  • Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale

Super

  • Audi R8 V10 Plus
  • BAC Mono

Hyper

  • Pagani Zonda R
  • RUF CTR3 Clubsport

It'll tide you over until Project Cars (proper simulation racing) or The Crew (proper arcade racer with epic open world map that is the largest in gaming history} I mean sure it only has about the same amount of cars as Drive Club, but the gigantic list of features accompanying those cars make it worth the purchase.

Edit: Actually I just noticed there are also hidden vehicles in the game which are unlocked by finding collectible parts across the map. Even bigger than I thought, HAZAH!

I had hoped this would finally give me a good racer to play with my PS friends, I picked up FH2 today for my Xbone & that's blown me away, I wanted a similar experience here.

Both Project Cars & The Crew look very good, I just REALLY wanted to like Drive Club for some reason, kinda get the impression I'm not going to though

Thanks for the info!

Sony needs to stop giving indie games every month on PS4 and start giving real games like they do on the PS3. I knew right away when they started making such a big deal about indie games that this is what they were gonna be used for.

I played & beat Dust on Xbox 360. It was an OK game. And as for Spelunky... I refuse to play 8-bit games on powerful consoles any longer. I won't continue to support that because I feel it's taking the easy way out of game development.

<< LINK REMOVED >> you realize that there is quite a huge difference between the PS4's game library and the PS3's right? Obviously Sony can only give so much away with only a year under it's belt.

You have no clue what an indie is and what it takes to develope a game. The zise and the scope of the game have nothin to do with it been indie. Educate yourself

You realize graphics are the easiest part of game development right? Level design, game concept, code base, etc. are the difficult and complex parts. AAA games use game engines with tools so easy anyone that's used PS can use them for their graphics, and usually they are sequels so textures and significant code is reused. I'd say indie development is not difficult than AAA.

It's cool if you don't like indie games or if you feel the hardware of new consoles must be used to justify the purchase, but to say indie development is easy compared to AAA games is unfounded.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Only young people who didn't grow up playing games like this could possibly dislike them. I grew up playing Road Rash, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem. 8 bit games have a special place in my heart, and considering the wild popularity of the return of 8 bit graphics, I'd say I'm very much not alone in feeling this.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Yes, but I see the guys point. Why buy a PS4 to play games with 8 bit/16 bit graphics? They might as well have just re-released the SNES or Megadrive and charged next to nothing for it.

I like these indie games, they take me back to my younger days when me and my brothers would sit around playing them all day. But you don't need a PS4 for that.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Because people buy new consoles and get rid of the old one (as I did) and then decide "I miss that gem, I want it back" at which point in time they buy the game for the new console. No one actively BUYS a console purely for indie games, they buy the games after buying the console to have the latest generation of console.

Honestly at this point it doesn't even have to follow the gameplay stylestyles of older games. It's pretty much an art style like cell shading. I can see some not liking the pixelated style. That wasn't the argument used here however.

For me I find it challenges the artist. I have heard that art is at its best under restriction even if self imposed as it inspires a creative outlook on the artist.

<< LINK REMOVED >> If you do the currency conversions for most of the regions that had their prices raised, you would discover that there aren't more than a few (if any) regions that have a higher price for PS+ than North America has. They were basically making it cost the same everywhere, which one might argue "Why would they not do this right away when they release PS+ subscriptions to the public?" My best guess to answer that would be that they did when they released the subscriptions, but what caused them to raise the price would be the ever-changing economy in some countries where, for example, the price when it was released was probably equivalent to the NA price, but the economy probably sunk in this region, eventually causing the PS+ subscription price to be CHEAPER in these regions. Therefore, for Sony not to lose money, the needed to raise the price in these regions.

And nowhere was there a '50% price hike' in the fee, just sayin....

So, PS+ for PS4 is still just as awful as GWG on XOne.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I wouldn't go that far. Sony is certainly more prolific in the number of games they make available with the subscription, across three platforms, regardless of the value one places on those games - and they have released many acclaimed AAA titles on the PS3 and Vita. It would also be more accurate to compare PS+ with Live!, since GWG is just a label Microsoft assigns to its initiative to release "free" games on Live!. I think PS+ wins out handily.

@NightRain I stopped playing - it's free, so definitely give it a try, but...

The game has adorable graphics, very nice. The environments are cool and the monsters relatively diverse (although you encounter a lot of the same monsters in different settings, which is weird).

The biggest strength is the combat system, which allows you to be really strategic. It has very solid combat, and the leveling of your character along with upgrading of your gear adds to that.

The biggest weakness is the game's plot and quests are soulless - not only are the characters flat, but the overarching goal of the game, along with its sidequests, are unenthralling to say the least. I didn't think this would bother me, but in the end it did - it turns the game into a total grindfest.

Which is really unfortunate, because, again, the combat is quite good - so if there was any soul to the game it would probably be a "9" or something. Instead it becomes mediocre pretty fast.

Anyway, that's my opinion - I know some reviewers were pretty positive, so... different strokes for different folks. You might love it.
