"Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that PlayStation Camera allows for voice recognition and we will look forward to sharing more details in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4 on November 29 [in Europe]," a Sony spokesperson told Polygon.

The confirmation comes shortly after an Amazon listing for the PlayStation Camera stated that it would allow features including "navigational voice commands."

Competitor Microsoft will offer voice command support for the Xbox One via Kinect.

The PS4 launches November 15 in North America, November 29 in Europe, and in 32 countries in all by the end of the year.

Look Im getting both, but will admit I am preferring the PS4 or what is known on this site as a "PS4 fanboy" simply because, Microsoft have u-turned after u-turned on their own contentious policies just to avoid loosing ground to the PS4. You cannot respect a company that does not believe in its own vision. But as a gamer, i am getting both anyway. like i got the wii u.

@garysingh34 Its not just this site.....or just the internet. Its still called a PS fanboy. But you can like one without being a PS fanboy. I prefer the XOne, but I'm not a Microsoft fanboy. As for the company, I can have as much respect for the company as I want....and I actually have a great deal. Well, at least as much as I can have for a giant corporate company. I do so, because while yes they had to change some policies, they did it to make consumers happy and they did it not buy quitting on "their vision", but instead kept their "vision" intact throughout the whole ordeal. Maybe they won't go totally digital this year, but at some point it will and they will be ahead of the game as they already have an infrastructure build. In the meantime, they have the same great console, with the same great features, and the same excellent lineup of exclusive games. Whats not to respect. I still think the PS4 is a great system too, but I've never had any respect for Sony and I've been buying their products since before they started making video game consoles. I have seen them quit plenty of "visions" and change plenty of policies.....neither of those are reasons for my not having respect for them, and not having respect for them has nothing to do with my preference of the One over the PS4. I simply want to better of the two systems that can do more for me and offer better titles....just so happens that I have more respect for Microsoft. I too will be buying each console though. I'm sure Naughty Dog will come out with something I will want eventually and the Wii U's lineup is looking excellent over the next few months. That's what it is to be a gamer and not a fanboy.

i gotta say, it's pretty hilarious seeing half the haters saying "Microsoft policies are a betrayal and need to be changed," and the other half of haters saying "Microsoft changed their vision. I've lost all respect for them now."

there's just no pleasing people.

@blue_shift_91 @garysingh34 Yeah I see what your saying, but let me put it like this. Users will criticise the iPhone, but irrespective, Apple will keep doing what they believe in and follow their own vision. There's no pleasing everyone, but the product will speak for itself. MS pussied out is what I'm saying. I wanted them to stick to their guns because, they have all the resources to determine and shape the future of gaming. They might have even been right all along with their policies, but now we will never know!

@arqe @Enundr @blue_shift_91 Thank you! Well put! I wish I could tell every obtuse fanboy out there the same thing and have them actually listen to it rather than blindly shutting the idea out. ...hard being one of the few that gets it and having to put up with all the close minded remarks trash talking the One. I'm gonna buy them all, I just can't stand seeing how many people trash talk the thing (XOne) while defending the others. They are all good consoles, the One just has more to offer with extra features...which costs a little more. And for the "only care about games" argument, there are far more exclusives at this point on the One anyhow so that's still a lame reason to trash talk. I actually both miss, and prefer, the "Idk, I just like it better" reasoning...that even makes more sense.

@Enundr @blue_shift_91 @garysingh34 They weren't giving information away to the NSA, they were legally bound to signing an agreement with them. Since then, joined by google, they actually tried to sue the government trying to get them to be more lenient about what information they can request and making sure they made both the company aware of it before doing so. They failed....its the government. But, they did in fact try, and did not WANT to give that information away. Why would they want to alienate their consumers buy doing so which would just end in financial loss for them all just so they could help the government spy on us. They are a company, money is what they are concerned about, not giving away information. And for all those shouting 'PC Gamer" out there, the government already has the rights to your information through the internet and has for quite some time now. And for everyone else who is concerned about US Spys, they have had the rights to your cell phones for a long time as well and have already used it on many counts.

@garysingh34 @blue_shift_91 I will say it once again, MS should have offered their vision of the future with incentives for going always online and digital. but at the same time offered a lower scale of not always having to be online and store bought copies of games. They took too big of a leap and scared the hell out of their consumers. And also they didn't think about the parts of the world and our own USA that don't have good or even any internet connection. They could have just offered more content to those who went with always on and those that don't want it just don't get those extra features but can still game. I personally just didn't like them forcing it down my throat, and being a gamer with both consoles but using my 360 predominately, was looking forward to the next gen MS was putting out. I went out after E3 and preordered a PS4 along with most of my friends. I will buy a Xbone in the future b/c my wife and I still like to have neighborhood parties with Dance Central and get a little sauced b/c it's a blast. But I work in Boston and when I am in lower income areas at a Dunkin Donuts, and hear the people talking about the policies and them not having internet so they can't buy the Xbone that's what MS should have thought about. It is a share of the market and seeing the poverty level in this country alone, especially since 2007 market crash, it just shows how not in touch and elite MS is.

@Enundr @blue_shift_91 I play games on PC and borrow consoles from my friends. I dont care which one sells more or which one is better.I just cant stand Sony defending fanboys idiocity.

Hard concept to understand ?

There is a "Hard Concept" for you to understand.

That 100$ you are so worried about , saying all "Extre 100$ for Kinect."

Xbox One got tons of different and more features that Ps4 cant offer. You use them all or not there are features that Ps4 cannot do.

So you are here still saying 100$ for Kinect blah blah blah.

How much money these "hard working" people paying for an Smart TV for their home ?

1500$ maybe ?

And how much is that same TV without smart option ? 250 - 300$ ?

Okey now lets rethink the idea of Xbox One.

I got normal TV for 1250$ , i buy Xbox One for 500$ now my TV is a Smart TV and i paid 250$ for Xbox One. Also i got Kinect and tons of extra features for 250$.

Lets go with Playstation now.

I got a tv 1250$ and got a Ps4 now. 1650$ and nothing more .... Lets add smart TV.

1500$ for smart TV , 400$ for Playstation 1900. and thats it ... Thats the Ps4 offering. NOTHING !

So now RETHINK about that hardworking people who thinks about 100$ .....

100$ for Kinect ... HARD THING TO UNDERSTAND ....

@blue_shift_91 @garysingh34 i understand their initial "visions" but with todays standards , and ISPs , things were not ready for this state of gaming. and with their lack of trust generated from giving user data away to NSA and kinect was always online all the time (or always plugged in , sorta glad they changed that cause i dont care for it ) it showed as a possible vulnerability in the system , ie it was a webcam in of itself and thats generally the easiest thing to hack in computers. Xbone wasnt going to be the exception , both xblive and psn have tendancy to get minor hacks , and its unrealistic to think theyre 100% invulnerable from hacks , but putting in a vulnerability like this wasnt going to be a good design for the console. theyve generally built that distrust from the NSA thing and the forced kinect was NOT going to help their case , but now noone wants it in the console at all and dont want to spend the money as it feels like were still having our options taken from us , our freedoms to choose if we want to get a peripheal or not , that is why ppl go to PS4. we feel like less of our rights are not getting taken away. if M$ wants to try to save face in this area theyre going to have to make a kinect free xbone , as much as they want to keep saying theyre not going to and hoping to make $ back from R&D (that isnt the bad thing mind you and they have that right to do so), but because of this peripheal theyre having less ppl buy the console as a whole , and have to ask themslevs which choice will help them regain $ and try to make profits from it , a kinect free xbone where its a choice to have one or not , or keep with what they have and gaurentee the ppl that dont want kinect also dont buy the console (loss of $ from console AND kinects). but then comes the situation of will ppl not get kinects at all. tough decisions but with that kinect still being forced to be purchased they gaurentee i dont buy an xbone , i dont want it now and i wont care for it then , and there has been little to nothing that felt remotely intriguing about the device. i already have pretty much all the media crap i need at home now , and dont need to spend $500 for another one , just want a gaming console XD

i actually agree with you. i felt like they should have stuck with it. but i can understand the 180. their PR was awful, and when you risk losing way too large of a market share, you gotta salvage what you can, however you can. in any case, i hope they try again later on in the future - preferably with a softer transition for a larger audience.

Avatar image for raduz123

It's hard not to become raving fanboy when you have already made your allegiance to a party. But I think the truth is both systems are actually very similar and future updates will make the distinctions even harder. I personally had massive issue with ms policies it tried to enforce but they have been resolved for the most part. Kinect is a great tool too, New tech and innovative ways to play should be pushed. The PS4 is offering touch controls and the Wii u controller is actually awesome. People should just go with the console that suits them.

Avatar image for Enundr
Enundr

@raduz123 their hardware differences are very little to null in being noticed , but kinect does not feel remotely useful now and weve been shown NOTHING (as far as my tastes go that is) that warrants getting it. But your right , ppl should go with whichever console that suits them , and there should be nothing wrong for that at all.

Where's all the hate from Sony trolls about having to pay for online gaming?

Avatar image for deactivated-57bac25e99ee3

@JBStone1981 People aren't hating as much on PS4 online as it is better value in many ways. It only charges for online play and doesn't restrict consumers from using recording features and F2P games, not to mention giving away new, not old games away for free constantly.

Compared with Xbox Live; they charge for everything, including features people may not even want to use, they're keeping the yearly fee even for MMOs like TESO and they give away free games but they're old and have often been played to death, like Halo 3 and AC2.

Avatar image for zathroe
zathroe

@robertcain Well technically you only get to play those "free" games on PSN if you have PS+. Once your subscription runs out, your games get locked. However Xbox's policies are you get to keep those games indefinitely, which is why they only give out older games. (Well they did give out Dead Rising 2 and Magic 2013 so they're not too old.)

And I'm not to certain what you mean by Xbox is going to make you pay for TESO? From what I've heard about it the game is going to be a separate subscription on both consoles anyway. So no matter what you have to pay for that extra subscription.

Avatar image for zathroe
zathroe

@robertcain @zathroe I really hope that you won't have to pay for both subscriptions.

It is generous but in the end it limits them to what they can put out due to publishers and developers not wanting their games being sold without profit. To be honest I kind of wish I had a PS3 so I could benefit from their awesome program, but alas I don't have to cash for that now.

Avatar image for deactivated-57bac25e99ee3

@zathroe @robertcain With TESO I was thinking about how Bethesda was pressuring MS to drop the XBL charge as people won't be as encouraged to pay out both £40 a year for XBL plus an extra £15 a month for that MMO.

I see what you mean by keeping the older games forever; it is a generous move but in the end, I think more people will probably be drawn into getting newer games, even if they aren't fully yours forever.

I love how these Sony trolls act like the Kinect is the reason they're not getting an XBox One. They're all indignant like Microsoft is forcing them to do something when they had no plans on buying the console to begin with.

Avatar image for deactivated-57bac25e99ee3

@JBStone1981 People don't know much about the new Kinect in general. We don't know if it will be a massive improvement over the original and we don't know whether there will be any must-own games for it. Consumers are also wary of all the previous failings of the original Kinect and don't want to be ripped off this time.

I think that that the double standard that Sony and Microsoft are held to are almost laughable at this point.

Now, I am not dissing on Sony fanboys, or extolling Microsoft fanboys in any way here.

(Xbox DRM POTENTIAL controversy aside) the fact that both companies have no DRM baked into the console, and Microsoft has stated that no DRM will be allowed on any Xbox One games, whereas Sony has said that THEY won't put any DRM into THEIR games, but leave it to the 3rd party devs if they want to do so. Or the concept of paying a fee for online multiplayer aspects of games, now that Sony has stated that PS+ is REQUIRED for online play. and now this newest aspect of the double standard: Voice commands for the Kinect and PS Eye.

I am surprised by the... hatred by gamers, when talking about the Kinect, for the CONCEPT of voice recognition in relation to gaming and game consoles, and the lack thereof when talking about the PS Eye. even though for all intents and purposes they serve the same capacity and allow for the same kind of interaction with their respective consoles.

Avatar image for MotRFalcon
MotRFalcon

@Paleamon One is forced the other is not. That's the difference.

Avatar image for Paleamon
Paleamon

@MotRFalcon @Paleamon again, that wasn't the question. it wasn't about the console aspect. Just the user experience aspect. the usefulness of the thing. lets say for example that someone gave you for free, a PS4 with the eye and move stuff, and also gave you, again for free, an Xbox One with Kinect 2. the ability to surf your main dash and switch between different things with a voice command or some sort of motion control is still the same, so why does the Kinect get flack over it and not PS I was referencing the original Kinect in terms of when the hate attacks started, not just with the next gen consoles, in which case you really can't say it was forced on anyone, since it didn't exist when either console was released.

Avatar image for Enundr
Enundr

@Paleamon i personally dont care for those "features" i tend to play games late into the night , sorta when other ppl in the house are sleeping. do you think i care to wake them up with shouting or jumping around? no i do not , as much i as care to have fun with games , i do not care to let a peripheal (which i do not care for or ever purchase) ruin others nights. i have respect for those around me , said peripheal that is not giving me a choice to get or not on xbone has no respect to begin with (in design / choice of being sold with or not) that again is why ppl dont complain about it being with the PS4 or not , because theres some lvl of respect for our freedoms of choice , whether the ppl that just come on here to hate ppl for their pasts (and cant get the hell over it apparently) see this or not. this is the issue with the whole thing , ppl do not care for the stuff outside of family oriented games , ask how Nintendo is doing , see how said motion controls are going for them.

Avatar image for Enundr
Enundr

@Paleamon the complaints are that it is FORCED on us with xbox , with PS4 we have a choice to get it or not , and both companies share pretty muc the same view (now anyway) on DRM , M$ stating that its up to the devs , same as PS4 (atleast back when i heard this at E3)

Avatar image for commanderxp90
commanderxp90

That's fully wrong to force people to be with the Xbox. It is best thing to leave them a choice for it.

Avatar image for Paleamon
Paleamon

@Enundr @Paleamon I figured that someone would say that. but when you take into account the fact that the original Kinect was NOT forced, and yet there were many people that simply didn't like the CONCEPT of motion and voice controls for games and console navigation. Current example... switching between gaming and watching TV, or simply turning the console on via voice command.

Most comments that I have seen on here and IGN in response to those announcements have been very negative and almost insulting. as if motion and voice controls were going to replace controllers and buttons, (or mouse and keyboard in some cases.) and yet when Sony says that they are going to do the same thing, and have a product that for all intents and purposes allow for the same kind of interaction... their fans don't raise hell about this feature that they think is useless at best, and obnoxious, awkward, and unresponsive at best.

where is the logic in that? shouldn't there be an equal amount of dislike for what amounts to the same experience?

Avatar image for Paleamon
Paleamon

@Enundr @Paleamon :( This makes me sad... Who was I calling a fanboy? I called no one a fanboy at all. and also, as I stated before, I was more interested in the double standard that is being put to the CONCEPTS that Microsoft and sony are doing the same things with their systems, but MS is getting flack over it, while Sony isn't. ok, I understand that many people don't want the Kinect bundled in with their Xbox One, but again, that wasn't my question. I was comparing the hate that MS got when the ORIGINAL KINECT CAME OUT, (that they still get for it based on the principle of motion control and voice commands) even though no one has forced anyone to buy that Kinect at all, and the fact that now that Sony has stated that the PS eye will do the same thing, that no one is up in arms making the same arguments and complaints, again about the concept, against it.

It is truly sad when someone gets on a website and asks a genuine question about human nature, they get called a troll because they seem to be questioning one side or the other. in this case that side just happens to be Sony, but it could have been MS. I personally don't use Kinect and I probably never will, but I know TONS of people who will. Same with PS eye. does that mean that I have to hate on the product just because I won't use it? no. seeing this just makes me wonder why people have double standards is all.

Avatar image for milomell

@JBStone1981 @Enundr @Paleamon microsoft take that right away from me, because i don't want the kinect but i want the xbox one ur being ignorant and if i was getting a ps4 i wouldn't buy the camera as well

Avatar image for Enundr

@Paleamon the thing is PS4 is NOT forcing ppl to buy the eye , xbone is with it. the console would not be $500 if it didnt , that much is for certain. so it is being foced and i dont fee l like paying for a peripheal i will never use. and to the idiot that things i never planned to buy the xbone before E3 and the massive dissappointment , you sir are wrong and a blatant troll that calls anyone with a general issue about something since E3 a fanboy. the fact is the DRM and all those other policies didnt bother me as badly , but i did NOT want the kinect at all. get your facts straight before calling ppl fanboys ;-) unless you are a fanboy yourself that doesnt do actual research / reading posts? =P

Avatar image for Paleamon
Paleamon

@Enundr @Paleamon ok, I understand that about the CONSOLES and the companies, but that wasn't what I was asking. it seems to be the CONCEPT of voice controls and motion controls, not the platform that they are used on, that the hate is directed at. Like I said in my original post, setting aside the policies that MS DIDN'T PUT INTO EFFECT, thus making them EXACTLY THE SAME as Sony policies when consoles hit the shelves, there seems to be a flooding of hate comments when MS mentions voice commands and such, and merely a whimper when Sony mentions it. or paid online: why is it that people rage against MS for charging for access to online play, but when Sony says that they are going to start charging for it after 7 years of not doing so... you hear people say what a smart move it was, and that it will only be a better thing for the people... even though they stated for YEARS that the free online is what made PS 3 better than 360.

Avatar image for Enundr

@Paleamon @Enundr no cause its not being FORCED on us , were not being forced to pay for something we dont need/want , hence why theres no outburst in it. were given a choice of either getting it or not , xbone removes our choices and makes them for us in that case , since its debut at E3 all the original policies were very restrictive on gamers and aimed only at benefiting the developers while some / most seem to make crap games continiously (that part of them being crap or not is up to each persons perception on them) , while gamers were getting less flexibilty with ther consoles , more restrictions. thats where the outburst was , thats why you still see it today . it was a horrid move by M$ and they no longer have trust so long as ANY of those original policies remain as is.
