The PlayStation 20th Anniversary DualShock 4 controller will be available to purchase standalone in September, PlayStation Europe has confirmed.

The controller, which is styled to look like the PS1 pad, was previously only available as part of the limited edition 20th Anniversary PS4 console bundle.

Sony has confirmed it will be available across Europe in September, but has not yet officially announced a North American release.

Online retailer Amazon, however, is listing the controller for pre-order, suggesting it will also be available in the territory soon.

Sporting the classic PlayStation grey colour, the controller also has the red, yellow, and blue PlayStation logo on the DualShock 4's home button.

Unlike the controllers in the PS4 bundle, however, the Touchpad will feature its normal dots, instead of the iconic PlayStation button shapes.

Originally, only 12,300 20th Anniversary PS4 consoles were produced. The online auction for the very first one, dubbed the world's rarest PlayStation 4, ended at ¥15.135 million, or about $129,000.

Sony released the 20th Anniversary PS4 in December 2014 to celebrate the original PlayStation's launch in Japan in December 1994. Units sold out in a matter of minutes.

Sony is really cocky these days with a 10 million unit lead over xbox. I can buy a new controller for xbox @ 59.99 / PS4 controller jumped to 74.99!! + 13% tax / 85 dollars for a new controller is ridiculous!

Modded controllers always cost more go look up Scuf controllers and try to make a Xbox One controller for less than 150 that has all the options the Microsoft elite has and get back to me. @ramtracker42: i live in canada, too. the reason the price went up is because of the shitty value of our dollar. $60us = $74.38can (at the moment) so the asking price of the controller is in line with the american price... BUT, what has me worried is that our games will soon be priced at $80can which makes no sense whatsoever since they are still locked at $60us. essentially, we are paying a $5can premium on something that is already far too expensive as it is. is the average consumer going to shell out $80 for a game so easily? i won't.

@Xristophoros: When I got my PS3 controllers were 54.99CAD. When PS4 was released DS4s were priced at 59.99CAD and this remained consistent up until Sony "raised product prices to reflect global currencies". So when they did that the DS4 rose to 65.99CAD. And then out of now where DS4s are now 74.99CAD! It's total BS.

yup, it makes no sense... i noticed that a ps4 controller on amazon.com currently goes for $53usd... converted to cad would be $65.... and yet, on amazon.ca and bestbuy.ca, they are going for $75. we are in fact paying a $10 premium on controllers which is unfounded.

@ramtracker42: yes, sony decided to update their prices based on the exchange rates... microsoft would have done the same thing if not for their weak performance in the marketplace. they can and likely will update their prices soon enough, though.

SlaceWuffAlpha, speak for yourself. I think the Dual Shock 4 is one of the best controllers ever made. The launch models did have a problem with rubber wearing off the analog sticks in some cases (mine is still fine), but the problem was rectified. All the conventional controllers of this generation - including the Xbox One and Wii U pro controller - are great.

@putaspongeon: calling someone a fanboy when clearly that person has stated that they are a gamer and has in the past defended each platform is a troll, the truth is PS4 has a great 2016 planned and amazing third party support but most of their exclusives at the moment are ports or remasters of PS3 games, DCUO on PS4 is a massive improvement over the PS3 version enough to justify it being called a remaster, like the last of us that's called a remaster, the fact that DCUO is free does not take away from the fact that it has had the same improvements seen in the last of us, the fact that you can't seem to take seeing any kind of criticism is why people hate trolls and fanbots.

FWIW, this whole generation, whether you own a XB1, PS4, or a WiiU (which I do own all 3) is going to be defined by two things: Delays and Remasters. Bottom line is this whole "Next Generation" Baby could have used another full year in "Development oven."

@alexanian: Microsoft needed to update the controller they messed it up big time, the 360 controller was way better how they could do so bad with the X1 controller still amazes me, the DS4 has only one flaw the damn light sensor which drains the battery way too fast.

The one showed here is the one from the 20th anniversary edition... We won't get this one unfortunately. The one that will have a stand alone release will not have the triangle, square, circle and cross pattern on the touchpad... before trashing me, do some research and you will find out that im right.

@thegroscon: Yeah, my current controllers just have little dots and the pictures on Amazon just show the little dots.

I'd consider buying this, but I've found the PS4 controllers to be incredibly flimsy. I just had to replace one that I owned for barely a year. Not worth it to get a special controller just to have it break on you.
