Playing Giant Gram: All Japan Pro Wrestling 2

All Japan Pro Wrestling featuring Virtua getting ready to body slam on the Dreamcast - Japanese style.

Comments

While the little-known All Japan Pro Wrestling featuring Virtua for the Sega Saturn made a small splash in import ponds around the country (appearing in Electronics Boutique, among others), it was a big effort that went largely unnoticed, mostly because American wrestling fans like American wrestling.

While Giant Gram will do little to change this, fans of the original have more than twice the reason to come back to the Dreamcast sequel. Featuring gorgeous hi-res graphics (the wrestlers are made up of hundreds of polygons) and four-player action, it would be hard to resist the temptation offered here (unless, of course, you're waiting for the DC version of WWF Attitude). Nevertheless, aside from the almost-photo-realistic graphics and the wide-array of wrestling moves available, Giant Gram marks the return of Virtua Fighter alumni Jeffry and Wolf, while VF ninja Kage Maru also makes an appearance as a playable character. Bound to broaden its appeal through a simultaneous release as an arcade game using Sega's DC-compatible Naomi board, Giant Gram has all the makings of a bona fide hit.

Improved considerably over its predecessor, with four friends and four controllers at your disposal, Giant Gram might be the Dreamcast's first great party game.
