We had the pleasure of being debriefed on the soon-to-be-released persistent-world online shooter PlanetSide at Sony Online Entertainment's E3 booth area. Though we've covered most of the major aspects of this unusual and ambitious game in previous updates, we received a quick status report on the last stages of the game's open beta test. The final order of business for Sony Online's PlanetSide team is "stability, stability, stability." We watched a brief assault take place on one of the game's 10 continents. All of the game's weapons, armor, and items have already been implemented and tested extensively throughout the game's open beta test. In the meantime, the team has been constantly working on making sure that the client's network performance will be stable and uninterrupted, though we've learned that the team will also likely patch in additional content in the form of a few new vehicles shortly after the game is released at retail.

PlanetSide will being shipping to major retailers next Monday, May 19. We'll have a full review of the game soon.
