Planetside 2 PS4 Beta Finally Dated

Closed beta kicks off January 20, Sony Online Entertainment confirms.

The long-awaited closed beta for the PlayStation 4 version of Sony Online Entertainment's MMOFPS Planetside 2 will begin on January 20, the developer announced today on the PlayStation Blog.

Sony originally targeted the beta to launch in 2014, but it was later delayed. The developer now says it's spent the extra time "refining, optimizing, and creating an amazing console version."

As you might expect, Sony says the Planetside 2 PS4 beta will help the developer test its servers, performance, and various other aspects of the title. The studio is also hoping testers will share their thoughts through special beta forums they'll have access to.

"We want the massive battles to make your heart pound and adrenaline pump, so share your thoughts with us," Sony says.

You can sign up for a chance to play the Planetside 2 PS4 beta today through the game's website, though Sony says players will be invited in chronological order based on when they signed up. On January 20, Sony will invite "a few thousand" players into the beta, while additional waves will scale up from there.

The full version of Planetside 2 for PS4 will launch later in 2015. For more on the Planetside 2 PS4 beta, check out this detailed FAQ.

Probably this beta alone will surprass all titanfall and halo games. This game was super-fun in pc and probably will be in ps4 too. Good job sony!

I tried it a little on PC.

Think I'd rather play it on ps4.

Are people really excited about this game? It's really nothing special on the PC.

About damn time!

Really shouldn't get too excited though. It's a second rate fps with huge battles. Tons of players on one map can make it fun at times, but the actual gameplay is clunky and subpar.

However, H1Z1 use the same engine, and that game is truly something to get excited for. I'm hoping PS2 gets the bugs, so that H1Z1 can play smooth from day 1.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The game play is actually pretty solid for a shooter if you take into account the gigantic scale. And besides new patches that temporarily cause issues, it's definitely not subpar.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Honestly, most of the people that say not to buy a prebuild are just being snobby elitists. Yes, you can do it yourself for cheaper, but some people just don't have the experience, or time to do it themselves. It all comes down to what you know, and if you enjoy that sort of thing. A person could easily build a car from the frame up for cheaper than buying a manufactured one, but how many people want to bother themselves with it? I prefer to buy these things, and learn about them by working on them with people that have the experience, or sometimes I just don't have the time to mess with it at all. To actually answer your question, that is not only a good option, but in my opinion a preferable one, until you're comfortable you know what you're doing. The big trick is to make sure the parts you're replacing old ones with are compatible with your motherboard. Also, as hammershock6 stated, mainstream brand PC's tend to have compatibility issues when swapping out parts.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Even if they don't solder parts in place almost no main stream retailers sell laptop parts other than hard drives and SODIMM RAM.

I've always wanted to upgrade my GT 640m to one of the newer ones but no one sells them in the first place.

I never played planetside what would I be in for if I bought it. I'm hoping for something better than Dead Space which I found dull and tedious

<< LINK REMOVED >> A decent FPS in my opinion, the chaos of the large scale battles definitely makes for impressive scenes. The gear they start you with is pretty good although the grind for new stuff can be a long one, that may have changed somewhat though, I haven't played in a while.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I played 2 the controls felt sluggish and the overall feel was tedious. This is why I need my own ps3, it was not my system so starting from the beginning was not an option. I don't why but I was not scared nor did I care that a big monster was attacking me
