Sony Online Entertainment's free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter PlanetSide 2 will not be available at the PlayStation 4 launch next month, president John Smedley has revealed. In an interview with Bloomberg TV (via CVG), Smedley confirmed that the PS4 version of PlanetSide 2 will be able in "early 2014."

"We're actually helping the Sony PlayStation 4 launch on November 15 by having our free-to-play game DC Universe Online actually come to the PlayStation 4 for its launch. And we're going to be following up that in early next year with our next game, PlanetSide 2, for the PS4," he said.

In June, SOE announced that DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 would be available on the PS4 later in 2013. Both games will support in-game purchases at launch. It is not clear why PlanetSide 2 for the PS4 has been delayed.

Smedley also addressed the free-to-play business model in general, saying that creating compelling content is incredibly important.

"The game literally has to be the best," Smedley said. "If you want people to pay for it, you better give them something amazing, because they can play for free as much as they want. So you have to do something amazing to earn their money."

PlanetSide 2 was originally released on the PC in November 2012. For more, check out GameSpot's review.
