VideoGameSpot recently received a new build of Activision's PlayStation adventure title, Pitfall 3D: Beyond the Jungle. While still considered a "pre-alpha," the most recent levels (the lava-filled 5-7 and volcano boss stage) have progressed noticeably.

Readers will remember that these latest levels include new creatures like the Darter (a large annoying mosquito-like creature), Imp (a 3D flaming skull), Magmoid (a large enemy that will pick Harry up by the face and throw him to the ground), and the impressive looking Fire Djinn (a being comprised nearly entirely of fire); and new objects such as conveyor pipes (pipes that scoot you along or back), gears (blades that rotate around the pipes), and chains (another take on the traditional Pitfall vine). Also worth noting is the fact that Harry also now has the ability to kill the scorpions, which slam him onto the ground repeatedly if he gets too close.

The screenshots represent the most recent look at the game's new stages and monsters.

The game is currently slated for a March release for the Sony PlayStation. For more information, see the full VGS preview and movie on the title.

For word on how the game's development has progressed so far, right from its creators, be sure to look up the Pitfall 3D: Beyond the Jungle Designer Diary in the VGS features section.
