Pipeworks laid into Foundation 9
Eugene-based developer joins fast-growing indie game studio consortium.
Foundation 9 Entertainment, which is less than a month old, has added a third studio to its organization. At the end of March, independent studios Backbone Entertainment and The Collective merged to form Foundation 9. Today, the company announced that it would be incorporating Pipeworks Software into its rapidly growing structure.
Pipeworks Software, founded in Eugene, Oregon, in 1999, is known for bringing Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee to the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft Xbox. The company is staffed by a number of former members of the now defunct Sierra Studios, including Mark Crowe, cocreator of the Space Quest series of computer games.
The newly bolstered Foundation 9 is currently working on a number of high-profile game, including Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and the PSP title, Death, Jr.
According to sources, Foundation 9 was already using Pipeworks Software's Spigot engine in an unnamed title, so this acquisition will bring both the game and engine under one figurative roof.
"Dan Duncalf, Dan White, and their team will be a tremendous asset for Foundation 9," said Andrew Ayre, founding partner and copresident of Foundation 9 Entertainment. Duncalf, president and cofounder of Pipeworks, will be joining the Foundation 9 board of directors, as well as remaining in charge of his team in Eugene.
