Phoenix Wright indicting the Wii?

German rating board lists unannounced port of DS's popular Ace; Capcom pleads the fifth.

What we heard: Ever since it debuted in 2005, Capcom's Ace Attorney series has garnered a cult following on the DS. Though they wouldn't win the same critical praise as the first Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, subsequent installments Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice for All (Jan. 2007), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations (Oct. 2007), and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (2008) saw decent sales in both the West and Japan.

Phoenix Wright may soon have his day in court on the Wii.
Phoenix Wright may soon have his day in court on the Wii.

The next installment in the voice- and point-and-click based courtroom adventure, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, is due to arrive on the DS in February. However, there are now indications the franchises may be branching out onto a full-sized console. On October 29, the USK approved the Wii game "Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney" for players aged 14 and up--but offered no further information.

The official story: US Capcom reps invoked their right to not respond to requests for comment.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus. Game-rating boards' bureaucratic processes often preempt publishers' carefully orchestrated announcements of new games. In the US, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) unmasked Assassin's Creed II: Discovery, Guitar Hero: Modern Hits, Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth, and, most recently, a series of PSP pinball games based on hit Sony franchises like Uncharted.

I like the PW games but I have one massive gripe with them. I often work out where the contradictions are and how to prove the guilt of the villain but the game is so bloody specific as to where to present evidence, or what to present, that I just get frustrated with it when I don't present at the specific point it asks for, then end up dying and having to do the whole thing again. Please make it a little more open ended for guys like me that prefer a realistic level of choice, rather than being restricted by the game's coding.

I love the series but I would only buy this if it was different games. Like, I wouldn't mind if it was a spin-off. Miles Egdeworth Ace Attorney Investigations looks great even if it is a spin-off.

Love the series, though I'm not sure I'd want to play it on a console. Well, I'll probably buy it anyways, so I hope it works.

@StarvingPoet, I watch lots of videos / games with subtitles on myself, so I'm privy to it, and I've played several PC visual novels; I just wouldn't play those sort of games on a TV-based console, they just don't work as well, especially when say 85% of the gameplay consists of reading. I can imagine the younger ones being very fidgety when playing this.

@Shtinky We've been reading scrolling text on our TVs since the first text-based games came out in the early 80s. Even today, if I can turn off voice acting and stick to sub-titles, I do it because I'm done reading a sentence by the time the voice actor gets to the third word.

no one enjoys reading lots of scrolling text on their TV - it's fine on a portable or PC as our eyes are closer to the screen, but on a TV it's not as comfortable. But if it's voiced, here's hoping the VA's do a good job.

If this happens, I want voice overs. I play my Wii to relax (except Golf, Golf pisses me off), I don't play it to read. I always imaged the Judge would sould like Gary Coleman... God knows he needs money too...

If its not a port I'll be picking it up day one... but mmm i expect it to come with Wii Speak or a discont on one i mean we need the power to yell Obection at our TV's haha. But mmm as much as I love Nick more so then Justice and not because we share the same last name lol. But wouldnt it be better as an Apollo Justice game all the extras would work better with the Wii mote like the CSI and the Body Lang moments.

I share the same concern with Rottenwood, judging from the title, I hope it aint a remake of the first game with voice acting and Wiimote controls tacked in, even if it got a graphical revamp l still would be skeptical to buy it, given how the series replay value is below zero IMO. I hope that I'm jumping to conclusions and be proven wrong, I always wished the series would branch out to the Wii ever since I beat the first game, and it looks like my wish came true.

I would gladly buy a new Ace Attorney game, as I'm a huge fan of the series. I never thought I'd go for them at first look, but they really do draw you in. If this is just a remake, though, I'd have to pass. The first one has some good cases, but they're not games you can replay very often.

I haven't played the other games yet (just got a DS Lite recently, and haven't had time to get the hundreds of games I want for it :P), but from what I've seen, they do look pretty good. I think it could work. Though, if they do make it for the Wii, then hopefully they'd actually use the Wii to the fullest, to bring something that may not be possible on the DS. As Genexi2 said, maybe have more spoken diologue and animation, and just have it be a longer game overall. I'd probably check it out either way, but those things couldn't hurt.

Going to be rather awkward seeing a game like Phoenix Wright on the Wii if it doesn't include full voice-overs and some more animation. It worked great on the DS (GBA originally) due to expectations of the format it was presented on, but this? I don't know....

I just hope they offer all these games on the Wii, preferably on one disc since I know they can do it. I'm just glad they're bringing these games back, they're really hard to find used in stores since they no longer carry new copies, and new copies can sometimes go for quite a bit of money if you buy them online unless you find a good deal, though finding used copies online isn't quite as hard and those go cheap. I'm just glad they're bringing it to the consoles because as good as these games are I don't quite like handhelds that much, but I like these games enough to where I put up with it.
