Signaling the end of support and services for the last of its Dreamcast online games, Sega.com has announced that Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Online Version 2 will not be playable online as of October 1.

The US Dreamcast PSO server will operate only until 7:59am PT on September 30. From that moment on, players will be unable to log on to the server. Message boards will be operating only until October 1.

Players with a PSO Hunters License valid beyond October 1 will receive a reimbursement around November 1 (to be applied to the credit card used at the time of earlier renewal).

Sega noted that PSO Dreamcast online gaming support and services were extended six months after the date originally planned for shutdown, adding, "Although this has been a difficult business decision, we know it is necessary to allow our valuable production resources to work on new games. On behalf of Sonic Team here at Sega, we would like to thank you for making PSO an unforgettable experience."

Sega will continue to offer online support and services for the Xbox and GameCube versions of Phantasy Star Online.
