PGL Boots Party of Eight

Cheaters caught fixing games and implementing cheats during Quake competition are sent packing.

The Professional Gamers League got a taste of the real world recently when it discovered a number of competitors had "artificially enhanced their performance" in PGL competition, according to PGL spokesperson Garth Chouteau.

It turns out that certain Quake competitors had either designed a hack to both steer them toward health and aim perfectly or padded their scores by inducing their pals to take massive amounts of lead in order for the aggressor to load up on points.

The PGL police officials took the unprecedented step of disqualifying eight competitors on Monday and say they have not only implemented a mod to prevent further hacker-like exploitation in Quake competition, but will also perform unannounced three-day audits on players during future qualification periods. Audits are designed to ferret out players padding their scores.

The PGL's second season of competition is currently under way.
