Peter Dinklage Thinks House Of The Dragons Shouldn't "Recreate" Game Of Thrones

The prequel spin-off is scheduled to premiere on HBO this year

HBO's Game of Thrones ended back in 2019--before the pandemic started--and actor Peter Dinklage still thinks about the series and its legacy a lot. In a recent podcast interview, Dinklage told comedian and host Marc Maron that he has mixed feelings about the upcoming House of the Dragons prequel series, and hopes it doesn't play it safe.

"I have an opinion," Dinklage told Maron on his show WTF, via a transcript provided by The Hollywood Reporter. "I think it is going to be a really good show. The director and producer of it worked on our show, and I think it's going to be really f***ing good. But, they took a risk on our show, HBO did. They took a huge risk on our show. It was a slow start, but why don't they do that again? This isn't a risk. It's a proven thing that works."

This sentiment echoes Dinklage's stance that he shared with the Independent earlier this month, saying he believes to "trick" to House of the Dragon's success "is not to try to recreate Game of Thrones." In that same article, Dinklage also discussed his excitement to watch House of the Dragon as a fan who doesn't know what will happen.

House of the Dragon is scheduled to premiere on HBO this year, though a specific release date hasn't been announced yet. Before this, George R.R. Martin commented on House of the Dragon, saying he saw a rough cut of the first episode and came away very impressed. "It's dark, it's powerful, it's visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy," he said.
