Konami has officially revealed this year's entry in its long-running football franchise, Pro Evolution Soccer. PES 2019 is coming slightly earlier than usual, with a release date of August 28 on PS4 and Xbox One in the US, August 30 on PS4 and Xbox One in Europe, and August 30 on PC worldwide.

Among the new features detailed by Konami are visible player fatigue on the pitch, improved ball physics and player positioning, and greater player individuality. There's also the usual roster of new animations, new celebrations, and improved in-game graphics, as well as a new menu interface.

MyClub see "its biggest revamp to date," says Konami, with a new player card design system, and High Performance Players that boast "temporarily boosted stats based on real world performances," similar to FIFA Ultimate Team's in-form cards. Master League, meanwhile, includes a new negotiation system and "realistic transfers."

Regarding licenses, Konami says it has more fully licensed leagues, stadiums, and clubs, but none of those have so far been disclosed other than Liverpool, Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund, all of which featured in PES 2018. The publisher recently lost the UEFA club license, meaning the Champions League and Europa League will no longer be included in their official forms. This year's edition does, however, see the return of David Beckham as a playable Legend.

After EA brought FIFA 18 to Nintendo Switch last year, some fans had hoped Konami would follow suit with PES 2019. However those hopes have not been met, with no Switch version revealed as yet.

We enjoyed the most recent Pro Evo and awarded it an 8/10 in our PES 2018 review. "When you get onto the pitch, no other football game feels as good as PES 2018," we wrote at the time. "The slower pace is a definite improvement, helping tread the line between realism and fun near-perfectly. There's just something about the players' movement and the kinds of arcs the ball makes in the air that's just so pleasant to control--every pass, header, and shot just feels right. And when it clicks, and you score a thunderous strike from the edge of the area or finish off a slick passing move or even when you launch an ugly long ball forward to grab a last-gasp winner, it's the closest feeling you'll get to being out there scoring yourself."

Really not bothered about the lack of licenses - As other people have said its so easy and quick to update - And I'm not sure I even played the Champions league anyway - So thats not a problem either - Gameplay on PES is so much better than FIFA

They didn't lose the contract with UEFA, the contract end as every contract will eventually ends, if they (Konami or EA) will pay we'll see EL or UCL in both games licensed.

I think I really prefer PES's gameplay to FIFA'S. The game is slower, so you have to wait for the opportune time to come, rather than just make twitch-fast reactions.

It causes you to analyze the game a little more, because the slower pace brings more attention and importance to your position on the field. In FIFA, you can quickly correct your bad decisions or bad passes, whereas in PES, a bad pass shifts the game more because of the time it takes and how the opposing team adjusts to the pass, it gives a sense of finality to your actions.

I can understand why people prefer one over the other, some people prefer a tactical military shooter like Insurgency, and others like CoD. It's a matter of taste, if you're into a more cerebral, tactical game, or a faster reaction-speed game.

The licensing is such an annoying problem, it's purely aesthetic, but there's an emotional attachment to seeing the actual teams' name that's big enough to play a part in your decision to purchase the game or not. It's like why people buy Fender strats over a smaller brand that has higher quality: the emotional attachment to the brand and what it stands for is powerful.

Losing the license of Champion's League is also another miss, but people seem to be upset with FIFA atm, I wonder if PES's gameplay along with this year's improvements will convince people to play PES over FIFA. Another huge factor is if FIFA is able to win back its fanbase that it angered, either with marketing, or by actually improving its gameplay mechanics and its features.

@leonfc1016: If/when they get at minimum the entire Premier League license, then I'll jump ship. Until then, I'm stuck with Fifa since the licensing is a pretty big factor for me. I know it shouldn't affect my overall enjoyment of the actual gameplay, but you nailed it. The emotional attachment to your favorite players/clubs really does play a big part in my enjoyment of a football game.

The lack of champions league makes PES even less appealing than it normally is.
