It's described as an "entry-level" version of the professional soccer game. There are seven teams to choose from, including Bayern Munich, Juventus, AS Roma, Brazil and France. It also has a "full" training mode and support for the game's myClub mode (unlimited access).

In addition, PES 2016's free version supports online and offline play and will be supported with "all future gameplay and content updates" from the regular, paid version, including roster updates.

Konami released PES 2016 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on September 15. However, the free version has only been announced for PlayStation consoles.

In GameSpot's Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 review the game earned a 9/10. Reviewer Rob Crossley said it "represents the best game in the series since the PlayStation 2 era."
