PC Versions of Xbox One's Scalebound, Crackdown 3, Quantum Break Not Ruled Out

"It's not to say those games could never come to Windows..."

Microsoft has no plans to bring Xbox One games Scalebound, Crackdown 3, or Quantum Break to PC right now, but they could be released for computers later, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says in a new interview.

Speaking with PC Gamer, the executive explained that these games aren't coming to PC, at least not right away, because development on these projects began before he laid out his vision for gaming on Windows when he took on the role of Head of Xbox.

"In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know, just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming Head of Xbox," he said.

When he was promoted to Head of Xbox in March 2014, Spencer said he was hoping to promote the Xbox brand as an ecosystem that spans multiple devices, including Xbox and PC. At the time, he said he believes "in the power of technology to bring games and entertainment to life across console, PC, tablet, and mobile devices."

In the interview, Spencer went on to say that asking the Scalebound, Crackdown 3, and Quantum Break development teams to add another platform to their plate wasn't in the best interest of the games. That "didn't really feel like necessarily the best way to end up with the best result for the game," he said.

No Caption Provided

PC versions of Scalebound, Crackdown, and Quantum Break have definitely not been ruled out, however, Spencer stressed.

"It's not to say those games could never come to Windows, but right now we're on the path to finish the great games that they've started, and I want that to be the case," he said.

Two other Microsoft-published Xbox One games that eventually came to PC are Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome. A PC version of Sunset Overdrive is also up for consideration.

Xbox One games from Microsoft that are coming to PC include Fable Legends and Gears of War Ultimate Edition. In the case of Gears of War, Microsoft has confirmed that the PC edition will launch after the console version. But Microsoft has yet to announce specific release plans for Fable Legends.

I sure hope Quantum Break and Scalebound will arrive to PC sometime.

I am very skeptical about Scalebound since Platinum Games have been nothing but exclusive on certain consoles for years: PS3, then WII U, now XB1...

I still wish Bayonetta 2 would have made it to PS4 or PC, that a Vanquish 2 will be developed for PS4/PC and now that Scalebound would have a PC version.

That being said, Metal Gear Rising was made by PG, but did make it to PC eventually.

I just feel like all XB1 games should be equally released on PC. Especially with MS advertisement of XB1 and Windows 10 synergy. Not everyone want to or should buy XB1.

I already own 3 consoles: PC, PS3 and PS4. It takes a lot of room, money and time to utilize all 3.

Plus, I live in Israel, prices for both hardware and games are much much higher, and most XB1's (and a lot of PS4's) services are unavailable or blocked in Israel.

Owning another console, would just be in-efficient, take more space, and wouldn't feel worthwhile imo.

It seems to me that most XBOX games are also released on PC, so I don't plan on owning an XB1. I sure hope that direction won't change.

@lonesamurai1:

No, as usual you are wrong. There is no way you can compare PC pirating with console pirating. It's soo much easier and prevalent to steal on the PC.

Modded Consoles are easier to single out for companies online and don't have CD keys to easily get games/software from pirate sites. I know you're a biased PC elitist but even you should know better than that. Game companies know this, that's why all the support is for consoles.

It might not be healthy for their hardware sales but MS's software sales could see a huge boost if they could extend their exclusive library to the PC platform. Seeing as PlayStation is currently dominant in the console market, extending their software market is probably the best route to take for the time being.

@smoker360: Why? Do you feel somehow more special when you own something branded "exclusive"? How does a game become less interesting just because it's available on other platforms? Just use your system of choice and don't act like the world is going to end because more people play the same games you do.

I've been an avid gamer for many years now. I bought a console only once in my life and it was for its portability. However I sold it shortly after, I just hated gamepad (outside of driving games) and those exclusives weren't that big of a deal. Mouse and keyboard is the way to go for me, so I just stick to PC. And also - steering wheel.

There are many gamers like me, that will just never ever buy a console (again), regardless of its exclusives. And gamers like you will probably never buy a PC. So denying a game to one group means less profit for its publisher and developer. Multiplatform games can only harm your misguided ego, nothing more.

@nocny007: Completely agree even though i mainly play on X1 i dont see why people make a fuss about them putting games on pc especially ponies saying there wont be a reason to buy on X1 if those games go to pc as if they had plan to buy an X1 in the first place i like where microsoft is going this gen and hate sony's direction which is why i own both consoles so i won'y be burned by any crappy deals these companies make

@smoker360: if the only thing good about a console is exclusivity, then why play one at all? You should enjoy playing on a console and the hardware for what it is, not because of the games. Otherwise you're just supporting closed platforms, when otherwise these devs could be free to make games that everyone could enjoy rather than be held hostage.

As a PC gamer I don't care one bit that console gamers get PC games that are normally PC exclusive, because I love my platform regardless, if you can't say the same thing about your console, well then...I'm sorry.

In my dream world no games are exclusive and console makers have to compete on features + hardware.

@AM-Gamer: Stability of XBL and an actual community is what i would love to say but to answer your question there is no reason there have never been a reason to own any consoles its just your preference so stop asking these stupid question's just be happy these games are going to PC

@clarens56: XBL community and stability? Stop making stupid comments. Exclusives are the reason you own a console and XB1 is soon to have none. I also couldn't care less if these games come to PC.

@clarens56: I own both consoles because between the two and a Wii U you can play about anything. I'm not a fan of PC gaming so my PS4 has become my primary gaming console as it usually has the better versions of multiplats. Most my friends have migrated to the PS4 as well. I just think MS should keep there exclusives, exclusive.

@clarens56: That's not true, Sony has invested in exclusives as much as anyone. UC4 is on the way and after that you can guarantee they will do another TloU. Horizon is on the way, Sucker Punch the makers of Infamous are working on something else. SSM is working on another GoW you also have a new R&C coming and that's not counting new exclusives like Dragon Quest, SO5 and Persona 5. My point is I don't have to worry about them re-releasing the game I just purchased with all the DLC for free. The XB1 feels like a beta test box for the PC.

Would love a pc version of Scalebound. It looks great. Not fussed for the others myself.

I think if they do go to pc it will be after a while. Years even.

@Frozzik:

This your way of admitting you want something else the consoles have over you? It's almost humble...in a sad "I'm trying so hard to still look superior" kinda way.

@Gravity_Slave: thing is I have no problem with console games. Some of my all time favourite games are console exclusives. Like I already said, I was very close to finally buying a PS4 last weekend, just to play Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. That game looks fantastic.

I do have a problem with how weak console hardware is or more to the point how devs use that hardware. Just like I have a problem with low/mid end pc's. That's just my taste, my preference. I hate 30fps, on pc or console.

I also take issue with ignorance, blatant lies or misconceptions of pc gaming. Some of the myths going round GS are truly archaic.

This is much more interesting. Although I feel I'm being stalked.

QB is more or less guaranteed for PC a year or two down the line. Remedy has never made a game that didn't release on PC at some stage.

@rooster42: I game primarily on PC, but if one of the two consoles has its exclusives also on PC, I can get away with buying just one console. This is more likely to be MS more than Sony. MS does allow its first party (and exclusive third parties) titles to make it on PC sometimes, less so for Sony. I don't expect to see Last Guardian or Uncharted on PC, so the choice isn't hard for me.

@rooster42: I'm the other way round. I am primarily a PC player who also buys consoles to play exclusives. Bloodborne got me to buy a PS4 and Tomb Raider was going to get me to buy a X1, but 2-3 months is really not long to wait to get it on PC.

@prats93: There's PC and "PC". I met many dense console fanboys who whining about shitty PC versions of many games. And of course they have some shitty laptops/desktops with 2 cores CPU, GeForce 8600 and 4GB RAM or Macs. So, yeah, it's not like "everyone" have PC
