The Giganotosaurus towers over the existing Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus creatures and will be a difficult beast to tame and eventually ride, developer Studio Wildcard said.
"Finding, hunting, and taming this fearsome 'flagship' dinosaur requires the very best gear and skills, providing a new late-game challenge for elite players and large raiding Tribes," the studio said.
"Fighting a Giganotosaurus directly is always a bad idea, as its rage rapidly grows with every hit it takes," it added. "With this rage, it builds increasing reserves of energy to use, making its iron-jawed bites progressively more deadly and enhancing its stamina."
Even after you've tamed the Giganotosaurus, Studio Wildcard warns that the creature can still momentarily turn on members of its own tribe. It can even toss off its rider if it gets mad enough.
Today's Ark update also adds new swords and an allotment of both primitive and modern shields.
It's also coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with owners of Microsoft's system able to play starting this winter through Game Preview. For more on Ark: Survival Evolved, check out GameSpot's Early Access review.
