Now Playing: How Does Paragon Play? - The Lobby

Epic Games has revealed the system requirements for the PC version of Paragon. The game is a MOBA in the same vein as Valve's Dota 2 and Riot's League of Legends.

No Caption Provided

Unlike these games, however, it has a third-person camera and is presented much like traditional action games, so the gameplay experience is better compared to Smite. Paragon also features a card/deck system and a more realistic visual style.

Interested in playing? Here's the hardware your PC needs to have to run it. Alternatively, you can also wait for the PlayStation 4 version of Paragon. The Early Access for both versions is out now.

So another game that you boot and it shows "Better played with Nvidia". No thank you.

@rogerjak: Do you even play any games?
Don't answer, I won't bother.

Not sure I'm terribly interested in the MOBA genre in general, and certainly not into LoL and DOTA style ones. It's not even the isometric thing either...I mean, I play all the CRPGs and even just started BG:EE 1 and 2 to see how "enhanced" it really is. But I like good PvP (maybe I just don't like PvP to be isometric), so this one has caught my attention so far. I'd want to wait to see how dynamic the PvP actually is first before buying, see some reviews, etc., but I can imagine trying it if it's not just "here's your 3 abilities, go spam them" type crap.

I am also leery of a leveling system that has you level only within the match and then resets you, altho I understand this might have elements of both temporary and permanent leveling. Anyone have more information on how it works and how deep (or shallow) it appears to be?

@esqueejy: Sounds like you have never played a MOBA. Basically you have a skill set per char. You level up the skills through the match and change how your char works in some ways through "Items". It's not for spammers as your skills all have cool downs besides your basic attack.

Like other moba's you as a person keeps leveling. The Leveling for your char is each match, since each match you would play a different char based on what your team needs. Its a team oriented game. May want too look Smite. It plays really close to that.

Something isn't right here. The difference between the GTX 980 ti and 980 is only 2fps. Whereas the actual difference between the cards in terms of performance is half more as much. I am pretty sure the 980ti will will more substantial lead over 980. The requirements are pretty solid none the less, I'll be playing on High on my 970.

Avatar image for maitkarro

@Gamer_4_Fun: I'll be playing on max on my 970, you can see the fps is well above 60fps, and 60fps is the bare minimum for smooth gameplay, so why limit yourself, also if it comes to that the max textures are too much for 970 you can just downgrade that option, and also reducing antialiasing helps with texture streaming, if not enough space in the gpu, other meaningful hoggers would be just resolution and shadows(latter more about performance).

Is this game free to play upon release? And if so will it have a fair payment model like heroes of the storm?

Avatar image for kargion

@Hagan: Game is like dota. Free from the start, all heroes are free. That is after early access.

This is the best requirements I ever seen in 20 years.

They explain for each GPU, what is the best setting they can use and how much FPS they can expect.

Avatar image for rabih55555
rabih55555

@Coseniath:

But they did not mention what CPU they used

Avatar image for teo2cry
teo2cry

@rabih55555: If I was them I would test with the best CPU I could get my hands on so it doesn't bottleneck the GPU. It seems the game isn't very CPU intensive and CPU benching for games isn't as popular so they skipped it.

Avatar image for beantownsean
BeantownSean

@rabih55555:

I suspect something like an AMD Phenom 945 would be the bare minimum, though their tested minimum is probably a 2nd Gen i5 given the lower clock speed.

3rd Gen didn't get down to 2.5GHz, except maybe a low-power CPU?

Avatar image for Coseniath
Coseniath

@rabih55555: Yeah that would be the next lvl.

To also test a wide range of CPUs comparing cores/frequency/architecture.

Avatar image for beantownsean
BeantownSean

Wow...that's a pretty good breakdown Epic. Even my laptop with a GTX 850M will produce playable framerates at low settings.

Avatar image for rabih55555
rabih55555

@beantownsean:

There is 850M GDDR5 and DDR3 version

They did not say which version they tested

Avatar image for beantownsean
BeantownSean

@rabih55555:

I have DDR3, but yeah...GDDR5 is faster. The difference I've seen between the two in games is as little as 4fps and as much as 10fps

Assuming they tested on GDDR5, my laptop would be just barely playable at the largest delta. I do however have Nvidia Inspector installed so I can bump up the memory clock speed.

This would all just be for giggles since I'd likely play on my desktop.

game looks like a beast, might aswell be the only MOBA worth playing in 2016.

"Unlike these games, however, it has a third-person camera, so the gameplay experience is better compared to Smite"

Come again? Is this an in-joke I'm missing or what? Better?

Avatar image for iammcgruber
IAmMcGruber

@billzihang: I'm confused on what your asking. I think they aren't saying this game is "better" than smite. Just that if you are going to compare two mobas, you should compare paragon to smite rather than league of legends or dota. But I could've missed what you meant

Avatar image for billzihang
Billzihang

@iammcgruber: It is a very unprofessional sentence for a magazine article. Saying it's a better gameplay experience because it has a third-person camera is a very odd thing to say, especially in a preview.

It's a rather sweeping and silly statement.

Avatar image for iammcgruber
IAmMcGruber

@billzihang: I see what you mean. However I don't think they are saying which has a better gameplay experience, even though their sentence does sound like it, just which one you are better off comparing this game too. I think they should have said "to get an idea of what this game is and how it plays, your best comparison would be smite"

Avatar image for billzihang
Billzihang

@iammcgruber: "so the gameplay experience is better compared to Smite"

It doesn't sound 'like it', it is exactly what was said verbatim.

I'm just saying someone who writes as a profession should be more careful with wording.

Avatar image for Cyampagn

@billzihang: I felt the same way. It was an odd sentence.

Avatar image for razeandjadith

@billzihang: The lack of a comma should tell you everything you need to know. Unless we ignore grammar when reading this then the interpretation is that the games is a better comparision not better gameplay.

Avatar image for off3nc3
off3nc3

@billzihang: Graphic wise you can't compare them and the third - person camera is better handled in Paragon.

Avatar image for billzihang

@off3nc3: "Smite looke awful can't compare it with Paragon atleast boot up twitch and watch some vids before posting nonsense." Yea, I saw your original post.

I'm posting nonsense?
