Parabellum will be a free-to-play military shooter with microtransactions that was shown in closed beta form on the E3 show floor. The game will let you play as a paramilitary soldier armed with conventional weapons to fight in Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and longer-term campaign multiplayer missions.

Who's Making This Game: Acony, a German startup studio working on its freshman project.

What the Game Looks Like: The game looks a lot like a modern-day shooter that takes place in urban environments.

What There Is to Do: Aside from competing online, you can also customize your character by choosing any number of different apparel options (which can include camouflage tank tops or clown hats). You can also equip your character with a great variety of weapons and mod your weapons with scopes, laser sights, and such.

How the Game Is Played: Once you have your character equipped, you can hop into the game lobby and join a game in progress, or start a new one with your friends.

What They Say: The game has received a new texture and lighting pass, went closed-beta last week, and has implemented the "cash-op" microtransaction store. Like all of GamersFirst's other games, Parabellum will have two currencies, an in-game currency (blood diamonds) and a for-pay currency ("G1 points"). The only items that you can purchase are convenience stuff that might, for instance, let you gain experience points faster; there are no items that can be purchased for real money that will make your character flat-out more powerful. You can also use real money to purchase "full repairs" for your weapons (which are permanent, not rented), whereas blood diamonds make only partial repairs.

What We Say: We didn't notice any new textures or lighting; the game actually looked pretty similar to what we saw in March at GDC. In any case, Parabellum will go open beta in July and will launch later this year.
