Overwatch PS4-Xbox One Cross-Play -- Blizzard Says It Will "Keep an Eye on" It
"We'll keep an eye on cross-platform possibilities on the consoles."
Responding to a tweet, the Overwatch account said, "There is no cross-platform play. We'll keep an eye on cross-platform possibilities on the consoles." This of course is not a guarantee that Blizzard will eventually deliver the feature, but it appears to be on their radar.
"It's really difficult," senior designer Jeremy Craig said about why Overwatch won't support cross-platform play between console and PC. "From a gameplay standpoint, mouse and keyboard has a little bit of an advantage in terms of being able to spin really quickly. And our game is pretty fast-paced. It just felt like there was a little bit too much of an advantage.
"It just seems like the console crowd is going to love playing against the console people; the PC people will love playing against PC people."
As for PS4-Xbox One cross-play, no game has ever allowed this. In March, Microsoft announced that it was open to the idea of connecting Xbox Live to PlayStation Network, and since then, developer Psyonix has said it could make Rocket League the first game to support this. The developer has found a technical solution, so all that's left to do is sort out the politics.
Whether or not other games, including Overwatch, ever add PS4-Xbox One cross-play remains to be seen. Would you be interested in duking it out with players on a different console? Let us know in the comments below.
