Overwatch League Adds A Huge-Name Sponsor

Blizzard revs up a big partnership with Toyota.

The Overwatch League, Blizzard's newly launched professional eSports league dedicated to the hero shooter, has announced a big-name sponsor for the first season. Toyota, the car manufacturing giant, was announced today as the North American launch parter for the Overwatch League. As part of this sponsorship, you can expect to see branded content in Overwatch League livestreams and at physical venues where competitions take place.

Also as part of the partnership, Toyota will collaborate with Blizzard on "behind-the-scenes content." There will also be a Toyota "vehicle presence" at the Blizzard Arena competition space in Los Angeles.

Some of the Overwatch League's other sponsors include gaming-focused companies such as Intel and HP. They supply the computers that some competitors play with.

In other Overwatch League news, Blizzard announced this week that the first week of competition drew an impressive 10 million viewers across four days of competition. Week 2 is going on right now, and you can see the full schedule on the Overwatch League website.

Twitch reportedly paid $90 million to get the rights to stream Overwatch League matches. To celebrate the event's launch, an Overwatch update has added a bunch of new Overwatch skins. To learn more about Overwatch League, check out GameSpot's other coverage below:

Morton's Salt?

Pamprin?

Psychic Hotline?

...and let's not skip the fun with "if you're stuck in your parents' basement why would you need a car?"

...and finally, the perfect sponsor for this is absolutely BRAWNDO.

This game is fun but it has no competitive value, but of course its carried by an amazing art direction, thats about it.

@xodaaaaax: Said it many times before: "Easy-mode MP"

I mean, it's fun... It's just not exactly hard. Based on others' advice here, I'm paying extra attention to the "hard" classes like Tracer and Reaper, and they're just as easy to kill as the rest of them.

@Pyrosa: People still call genji high skill cap when any moron picks up genji and start dominating after about 5-10 hours of play time.

its hilarious really.

@Kezzy123: This is an exaggeration. Or something. Something is off with this statement. Also you were the troll on the other thread. nt nt nt. That being said. People think they are good all the time because they start playing a certain character and start getting picks left and right. When in reality the people you are matched against are just not good players. Like my friend, who plays widow. He can get picks left and right easy. Against Golds and Plats. I wouldn't say thats super impressive or hilarious in all honesty. Disclaimer: I fucking hate overwatch

@swatleader: far from an exaggeration. You dont play the game clearly. Genji mains are rampant because once you go genji its hard to go back. Genji has the highest skill bottom. Nobody picks genji and does well right away. he needs a bit of time to get the basics due to his mobility. Once you have the timing and a bit of experience with double jumping and wall jumping, you start dominating pretty quick. The problem is in the design. A paper thin hero that has crazy mobility that has a deflect that is 3 times as wide as the character model and both a snipe ability and a shotgun ability unlike say tracer who is fairly useless at range, genji can play far or close quite efficiently. Being paper thin and fast means the only real counter is aim and since you need the aim that the top 10% of players have to counter him efficiently, that means that for 90% of the rest of players, he is plague.

The different in skill level is not as big as you would imagine and players of plat and players of masters play relatively the same genji. The difference is that at masters, people have the aim to kill him but in plat people dont. The reason hes called high skill cap is in 2 parts:

1-Kids who play him play him A LOT and they dont want to admit that its because hes an easy hero to play.

2-Other people try genji once in a while and think hes hard to play so they assume high skill cap (vs high skill bottom)

But anyone that I have seen invest 10+ straight hour in this hero dominates way above his ranking. IE: a bronze player can dominate amongst plat with genji but with no other hero.

@Kezzy123: play this game everyday (kill me). Have three accounts. If the person was that good with genji they wouldn't be in bronze just an fyi, granted that example could apply to a lot of people. Where they play only one hero for so long but cant play anyone else. Depends on the person. And I am a firm believer that you'll end up in the rank that you belong in if you play consistently and seriously. But out of all the dps characters, genji and soldier and reaper are probably the easiest to pick up sure but still leave plenty of room to get good with them and master. The phrase easy to pick up but hard to master here. Also you sound way less salty in this thread. Thank you. But for someone who is so critical of the game you sure like to read the articles about overwatch. I also would say all the heros are easy to play, outside of hanzo and widow maybe. But again. difference between easy to play and to play them well. Like i don't think genji is hard to play, but im not good with him either.

@swatleader: if you want the truth, the reason im salty is this.

I was in overwatch beta and active on forums. Kaplan lied several times and got quoted as such but there was one thing he lied about I called him out on and he responded to my thread calling me a liar (not in these words but saying that he never said so and so) . He thought he was safe because this was after they wiped the forums but someone kept an archive of dev posts so I was able to quote him saying what i stated he said. Shortly after this, I went from a 70% winrate to a 50% winrate and 99% of my games are HORRIBLE matchmaking. I group with people regularly and several cannot believe how bad the matchmaking is when they play with me and dont have that experience when they play solo. So yah. I hate that giant douche man-baby and I hope his game dies a miserable death :P

@Kezzy123: tell me what he lied about. I am genuinely curious. But also, sucks. Shit happens. Sorry to hear that. I will reserve the rest of my comments after I know what he lied about.

@swatleader: There were several lies he got caught for.

I cant remember which is the one I specifically called him out on.

One was that he promised that there would never be any items in game you cant buy with gold then they did the first Olympic event where you couldnt buy with gold. They even wiped the website mention of this after being called on but it was kept via screenshots.

@Pyrosa: Easy to pick up but hard to master. It definitely becomes hard when you faced skilled players. I am not sure what people mean when they say "Easy-mode MP". Is that cause anyone can play it? Well they is true anyone can play it, but to play it well is a different situation.

@swatleader: These guys got me wrong, i do believe the game is pretty easy and you don't need high mechanical skills to rank up (i see a lot of one-trick heroes people in diamond), most of the difficulty comes depending of the team you get to play with, but not to the point that any moron with no experience on competitive gaming can easily master this game.

I just think that this game is so team based that you can barely appreciate the individual skills of a player (and most the time you dont learn anything from watching a pro aside from a few tricks), plus it's fast gameplay make it really confusing and unappealing to watch (but then again, it has an amazing art direction and lots of appealing characters).

I also really hate the fact that a couple of heroes are must pick while the rest are considered situational or even troll picks, even Blizzard allows you to report people who pick Symmetra on attack... Everything on overwatch seems to promote toxicity. Still play it all the time though, cause its fun.

Avatar image for swatleader

@xodaaaaax: also as for the hero picks, any hero is viable unless you A) you arent good with that hero, B) getting countered hard or C) just not what your team needs. (A sniper in a situation where you are getting picks but, your team needs to fight on point and can't capitalize off those picks). Granted the situation is a little ridiculous with Mercy. She is just a hard hero to balance the way Blizzard has handled her but, it isn't a 100% loss if you don't play her as a team. Just have to work around it.

@xodaaaaax: I wouldn't consider Diamond to be high. Also this game is a lot of game sense and requires some form of skill beyond that to get to masters (not that great either) or gm. And you can learn a shit ton from pros or really good players. Either know what to look for or watch streamers who play characters you play that are gm or above. Not looking at how they aim but how they move, map positioning, how they use the heroes skills or how they play against certain heroes. This game is what you make of it and I cringe when people say it doesnt take skill. The average player is not getting to diamond or masters and even people who dedicate hundreds of hours to this game and play consistently arent guaranteed to get past plat even. If the game is easy for you then great, maybe youre really good or you dont play at people better than you. Who knows. But it definitely takes some type of skill to rank up. Not sure what youw ant to call it, also it depends on what hero you play as well.
