Overwatch 2 is celebrating its one-year anniversary by bringing back seasonal game modes for a limited time and offering a way to earn some fan-favorite skins for free.

The game's anniversary event will run from now until October 9, with the seasonal game modes on tap changing each week. Completing mode-specific challenges related to the seasonal event modes will unlock rewards like player icons and highlight intros, while completing the more general event challenges that only require players to complete matches will unlock Overwatch Credits. Those credits can be used in a limited-time Anniversary Shop to pick up some of the seasonal skins players may have missed out on over the past year.

Kicking off the event will be the return of Winter Wonderland game modes like Yeti Hunt and Mei's Snowball Offensive and Season 2's Battle for Olympus game modes. Week 2 will see Assault, Catch-A-Mari, and Season 4's Starwatch: Galactic Rescue make a return. Last but not least, week 3 will bring back Summer Games event modes like Lucioball alongside Season 5's Mischief & Magic prop-hunt game mode.

Up to 3,000 Overwatch Credits will be up for grabs by completing all of Overwatch 2's anniversary event challenges. Though the event itself will end on October 9, the Anniversary Shop will stick around a little longer, until October 16, so players can spend their credits on skins like Space Raider Cassidy, Hermes Lucio, Beekeeper Sigma, and more.

Overwatch 2's latest season, titled Invasion, added story missions, the new support hero Illari, and hero-mastery challenges. The game also debuted on Steam with Season 6, where it became Steam's worst user-reviewed game of all time, but for a surprising reason.

Despite canceling Overwatch 2's planned PvE "Hero Mode," Blizzard says it has "lots of exciting news" to share about what's next for the hero shooter at BlizzCon, which will be returning as an in-person event for the first time since 2019 on November 3-4. Blizzard has additionally teased an "all-new crossover event" for Season 7. Overwatch 2's first crossover added One-Punch Man-themed skins and cosmetics during Season 3.
