Outriders, the new shooter from the developers of Gears of War: Judgment and Bulletstorm, will release day-and-date on Google Stadia alongside the other editions of the game.

The release date is April 1--and that's no joke. The game had already been confirmed to launch on April Fool's Day for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, but this is the first time the date has been announced for the Stadia edition.

Square Enix also confirmed that Outriders on Stadia will make use of the platform's "Stream Connect" feature that allows players to watch the gameplay of their friends via a picture-in-picture window.

"We'e excited to team with Google to bring Outriders to Stadia with Stadia exclusive features and the highest levels of performance, allowing players to get the best experience on all supported devices," Square Enix External Studios boss Jon Brooke said in a statement.

Outriders was supposed to launch sooner, but developer People Can Fly delayed the project multiple times, for various reasons. Explaining the latest delay, the studio said it wanted to take more time to fine-tune the game, going on to thank fans for their patience over the years. A free demo is planned to release on February 25, so fans don't have to wait until April to check it out.

People Can Fly also announced that Outriders would have no microtransactions and is not a games-as-service title.

Outriders will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while people playing on PS5 and Xbox Series X will receive free upgrades.
