Outlaw Volleyball E3 2003 Preshow Report

Simon & Schuster's volleyball game for the Xbox will contain the same style of humor as the Outlaw Golf series.

Continuing the wacky sports tradition of the Outlaw Golf series, Simon & Schuster will be releasing Outlaw Volleyball for the Xbox this summer and will also be showing the game at its E3 2003 booth. The game will feature 16 zany, over-the-top characters from all walks of life, as well as 10 bizarre environments to play in, such as a subway station, a rainforest, an underground sewer, the roof of an inner-city apartment building, and a women's prison. Gameplay will rely heavily on arcade-style volleyball action, as well as occasional fights that break out between players, and the game will use a basic punch, kick, and block control system.

Outlaw Volleyball will feature four modes of play: an exhibition mode, a tour mode that takes you through all of the game's courses, a tutorial mode, and a drills mode. In the drills mode, you can play a number of bizarre minigames, which in turn will help build up your characters' statistics to improve their quality of play, personal attributes, and even teamwork skills. Play-by-play commentary in the game will be provided by senior Daily Show reporter and Watching Ellie costar Steve Carrell.

The most notable of all features announced for Outlaw Volleyball, however, is its online function. The game will be the first volleyball game to make use of the Xbox Live service, and it will give you the ability to compete against other Live players, using your favorite characters with all their upgraded stats intact.

Expect further coverage of Outlaw Volleyball for the Xbox in the near future.
