Directed by David Lynch (Mulholland Drive) and released in 1984, Dune was a strange sci-fi epic that had been in development for years before Lynch stepped into the director's chair. The book tells the story of how Lynch, one of the hottest new directors in Hollywood at the time, was handed a massive budget by Universal Pictures in an effort to produce a movie that famed directors like Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo) and Ridley Scott (Alien) were unable to realize.
Written by Max Every, the book examines how the movie was made with an oral history gathered from a lineup of Dune actors, writers, producers, and Lynch himself. It should make for fascinating reading for big Dune fans. Kyle MacLachlan, Sean Young, Virginia Madsen are just some of the names featured in this book.
In other Dune news, you may have to wait longer to see the next installment in Villeneuve's Dune adaptation. Due to the ongoing writers and actors strike, Warner Bros. is "strongly considering" pushing Dune 2 to next year. For now, Dune 2 is still slated to release on November 3.
