Oppenheimer-Barbie: Nolan, Cillian Murphy Love It, Think It's Good For Cinema

On July 21, moviegoers in the United States will have the opportunity to experience a unique double feature as Greta Gerwig's film, Barbie, and Christopher Nolan's drama, Oppenheimer, both hit theaters. The cast and crew behind both movies are well aware of the memes, merchandise, and overall sense of reconnection that have emerged as a result of the unlikely Barbenheimer double-header.

In a recent interview with IGN, Christopher Nolan underscored the significance of a packed summer release schedule, stating, "For those of us who care about movies, we've been really waiting to have a crowded marketplace again, and now it's here and that's terrific." Oppenheimer's Cillian Murphy echoed these sentiments, saying, "I'll be going to see Barbie. I can't wait to see it.. it's just great for the industry and for audiences that we have two amazing films by amazing filmmakers coming out the same day. Could spend a whole day in the cinema, what's better than that?"

But the question on everyone's mind is: which film should be seen first? Oppenheimer's Matt Damon said, "I'd knock out Oppenheimer." Conversely, Damon's co-star Emily Blunt said, "Maybe Oppenheimer on the Saturday? Friday night? I don't know."

Ultimately, Murphy suggests leaving the decision to fate, advising moviegoers to "flip a coin."

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Barbie-Oppenheimer double feature demand is very real and not just an online joke--as of July 10, AMC Theatres issued a press release stating over 20,000 AMC Stubs members have bought tickets to see Barbie and Oppenheimer back to back.
