What does a utopian survival horror FPS game look like? You can now see one developer's take, as indie outfit NVYVE Studios today released a gameplay trailer for the title, P.A.M.E.L.A., showcasing the game as it currently stands in its alpha state.

Check it out below, while more details follow further down the page.

P.A.M.E.L.A. casts players as a Sleeper, who wakes up from cryosleep on the mysterious planet of Eden. The world may look beautiful, but it is actually an "unforgiving paradise" that will showcase the "consequences of humanity's craving for technological and biological advancement." You will be challenged to survive "against all odds" by making use of "unconventional technology" available on Eden.

This video specifically showcases new environments, combat maneuvers, weapons, and some of the game's base-building mechanics. Pamela is the name of Eden's AI overseer.

Throughout the game, you will discover the events that led to the civilization's downfall, meeting up with different factions along the way, including citizens, security droids, and other robots.

"In a completely open and non-linear world, no two players' experiences will be the same as they struggle against randomly generated dangers and items," NVYVE director Adam Simonar said in a statement. "Even sanctuary behind the walls of their fortifications can only last so long, as power is finite and constantly depleting."

P.A.M.E.L.A. is due to launch for PC this summer on Steam. In addition to the trailer, you can check out some images in the gallery below.

The graphics, environments and emphasis on exploration were great but I felt that the enemies were somewhat lacking.

Aside from the 'blaaahh' combat, the rest of it looks pretty interesting.

I like that they also have those areas where there is daylight, scenes that don't appear to be scary at all. If they can manage to keep up the fear and tension in those areas, it could be quite unique.

Not sure why running seems to be in slow motion. The game movement seems to slow to enjoy.

I don't seem to get the horror aspect of this. first of, the daylight outside and the enemies that attack you seriously remind me of what dead island is, and we all know how that thing turned out. Second, there's nothing scare-worthy here, I could understand if we had something like a world that constantly shifts it's appearance and layout so that it would confuse us and then start spawning enemies behind you or from the sides and forcing you to find a place to hide in an ever changing environment, or at least make the creatures more scary or add charm to them with some intimidating introductions, Like say you simply walk by a corridor and suddenly start hearing the grinding noise of a chainsaw and it keep getting louder and louder till you realize that that thing is standing right behind you and run the hell away from it

So when does the horror come in? It looks like a watered down version of bioshock however it does show potential

Looks cool. Needs to make sure the combat is decent though. Something tells me if that doesn't work the game will struggle. Just got a vibe from it.

That mechanic where they assembled like a beacon or something in the lobby? That could be quite interesting if it is used correctly. Make good use of exploring to find different items and then combining them in different ways for various tasks. Might be reading too much into that though.

While this game does look good, its basically just an alternative take on bioshock, hell even the concept of the protagonist waking up from deep sleep is basically bioshock 2. that said if it comes to consoles I would play this.

@divinejester: It just uses the same basic themes. Bioshock was hardly original. I don't know maybe it as a rip off, but it doesn't sound like it.

@divinejester: What's the gameplay like though? Is this a First Person puzzle game like Talos Principle or The Witness? or will there be combat?
