[Update: Ooblets has entered early access on both PC and Xbox One.]

Ooblets, the cheerful indie game about creatures on a tiny island community, is finally preparing for release. The official Twitter account announced that it will enter early access on PC through the Epic Game Store and Xbox One on July 15.

In addition, it will be 20% off for the first week on both platforms. That will knock the usual $25 price down to $20, until July 22.

In Ooblets, you enter a small island community of Badgetown and harvest small living crops called (obviously) ooblets. Then you raise them and battle with other creatures in dance-combat to earn their seeds and raise even more. You'll also expand and decorate your house as you progress, and befriend the quirky townspeople. Imagine a mixture of elements from Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, and Pokemon.

The game was overshadowed, at least for a time, by a controversy that flared up around its Epic Game Store exclusivity. Developer Glumberland announced the exclusivity deal with some cheeky humor, and subsequently received thousands of hateful messages. It was later highlighted among Epic exclusives at PAX West.
