The first of the month means a ton of new content arrives to streaming services like Netflix. It can be hard to wade through all of those new arrivals, but here's one that's worth taking notice of: The 1993 classic animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is now streaming on Netflix. The 76-minute superhero film is widely considered one of the best and most breakthrough Batman movies to date.

Inspired by the plot of writer Mike W. Barr's Year Two comic arc, Mask of the Phantasm deviates by debuting an all-new baddie, the Phantasm. In the cult classic movie version, Batman faces off against the Phantasm, an anti-hero who operates without a code of conduct and any qualms against killing criminals. Batman fights his past demons, Phantasm, Joker, and the closing door of his own human vulnerability in a story that is action-packed, cerebral, and also packed of surprises too good to spoil here.

The film was directed by Eric Radomski and Bruce W. Timm from a screenplay by Batman: The Animated Series writers Paul Dini, Martin Pasko, Alan Burnett, and Michael Reaves. The voice cast boasts Kevin Conroy as Batman, Stacy Keach as Phantasm, and Mark Hamill as The Joker.

This being the first of a new month, this is one of many new releases hitting Netflix this week.

For more upcoming streaming info, make sure to check out what's coming to Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, Shudder, and Disney+ for July.
