Ian Garvey from New Hope, Pa., was crowned the US Pokémon Champion during a tournament held at Wizards of the Coast in Bellevue, Wash., this past weekend. Garvey and three other competitors made the semifinals that were held last month. The quartet then visited Nintendo of America's headquarters in Redmond, Wash., to practice for the finals, which Garvey dominated.

As a result of this weekend's win, Garvey, who is also known as "Eevee Trainer," will represent all US Pokémon players in the first-ever Pokémon 2000 World Championship in Sydney, Australia. Players from seven other countries will compete to determine the world's ultimate Pokémon Master. The festival, which will be held September 20-22 at Sydney University, will be an interactive event where players can compete in trading card and video game tournaments, view a Pokémon Team Rocket live show, and get a sneak peek at upcoming Pokémon products.
